Hi all !
I have recently been diagnosed as Pre diabetic , not a huge surprise considering my family history and being overweight . My Hb1 (?) is 6.4 and my Dr has told me that diabetes is diagnosed at 6.5 . She has told me to act quickly to lose 2 stone and to excercise or risk being diabetic by next year . I would be glad of some help as I am vegetarian and lactose intolerant too and quite simply , I m running out of food that I can eat ! I have had frequent bouts of extreme tiredness , feeling shakey and dizzy . Not sure if it s my diet or high sugar that s doing this . I ve only lost 3lb in 4 weeks and don t feel I can cut anything else out . Help and advice please :)

I can't answer your post but replied so you wouldn't lose heart.
It's very quiet on here the last couple of days ... hang in there and someone will have some advice I'm sure.
I'm fairly new and this place has been very educational and the members very patient.

Thanks Jackthelad , I m not surprised it s quiet , just realised how late it is !
Yes , I m glad I ve joined the forum , I ve dipped in a few times and learn more about diabetes each time .

Hi Phoebe welcome to the forum. My advice is reduce the carbohydrates you eat and replace the calories with fat. It has worked for me and many others here. And eat 4 pots of marmite every day as you are vegetarian.
Your HbA1c is not that bad.

Whaaaa!
That's fifteen quid a day on Marmite!
How much on bog roll I can't imagine .....

Hi This is Too Difficult . Sorry for the quick reply above , do you mean 4 portions of marmite . I will try replacing the carbs with fat ( hard for me to get my head around that idea tho as it goes against any diet rules that I ve had to stick to in the past ) .
Yes , 6.4 isn t bad but I d like to try and keep the diabetes at bay if I can :)

I was being anti veggie there sorry about that

Injections ?

It wasn't a reply to your post. It was a general vegetarian 'it can be done' it's obviously a lot easier with a wider diet

Sorry phoebe I was being controversial there. I don't agree with vegetarianism,
I don't eat much meat though.

Just to say .... I am technically a pescatarian . I felt healthy until I tried cutting down on carbs / being diagnosed . I will watch my b12 levels ( I m am fairly new to cutting out meat too so this is a steep learning curve ) . Thank you to those who have made constructive suggestions :)
