Hi Trucker2, I was diagnosed type 2 in january '08 at age 47.
I'm naturally lean and found myself losing muscle and drinking heaps of fluids and being tired all the time - so I knew something was wrong.
I too had a less than impressive introduction to diabetes by my doctor - I transfered myself to another doctor in the same surgery - he knew alot more about it.
There doesn't seem to be a diabetes nurse here in Glasgow, but the dietician was helpful.
I think there's alot of room for improvement in how newly diagnosed people are handled.
But it's great that the medication is free because of the exemption thing.
