What an excellent speech. Well done. Very clear and concise. Like it.

What she says!

Some other useful sources of dietary information

might help fill in some details of *current* dietary information about fats. Don't forget most pre-21st Century dietary research was done with high carb diets (until you go back far enough in time to avoid Ancel Keys) and most of the "harm" of fats is in that context, they are Bad Stuff in the presence of high quantities of carbs and high levels of insulin.

Hi again HpprKM, in education too....me as well but no students with diabetes although when I mentioned it to my students there were a lot with diabetic parents.
I am overweight and smoke :? and have introduced slightly more fat into my diet and my cholesterol is fine....it's weird how it alters from one person to another, but I know that sometimes in low fat stuff they up the carbs somewhat so it affects my BS. When I went to see the endo, my blood pressure was shocking and my my weight is something to be desired he smiled sweetly at me and informed me he was going to take my bloods for my cholesterol etc levels and he would have to put me on statins as given all other factors my cholesterol would be shocking too...ha ha that backfired as my trigs came back very low
Thanks for the advice on the bread I will have a scout around as I have to admit I take salad to work and then ignore it at lunch time  I have tried burgen bread which claims to be low GI but it had quite an effect on my levels, but that was a while ago when they were still in double figures. Need to experiment again now they are more under control and see what happens.

Hi again,

Good to hear that you are trying to hard with diet. I am happy to say that my blood sugars were fine yesterday after Dr visit, but m Chloesterol was 5.4 and has been in the 5s consistently for best part of year, so Dr suggested statens, reluct to take them so she suggested the minimal quantity for 3 month trial. I really cannot understand the reason why is is high, I have never been into eating fat, as a child I had jaundice and was told that I could never really tolerate fatty foods, and I cannot they make me feel sick, so avoided them! Dr said is unfortunate, and looking at me I should not even be a T2 diabetic as do not fit the norm, just unlucky I guess.

Hope you find the bread you like, but you might also like to check the carbs as well as GI, I slipped up on that one a couple of weeks ago, not realising the difference and being a complete novice at all of this.

I guess I am one of the 'lucky' people who can get away with small amount of carbs for the moment at least, so will not be back on this post for a bit. See you all elsewhere in forum, good luck and thanks for all support and adbice :D

Hi
A "diabetic newbie" and a member of this excellent forum, I've been getting knowledgeable insights on Diabetic Menu and diet, and its only been 30 minutes since I've logged in. Good quality discussions. I am obese and very fond of eating especially gourmet food, obviously, because that's what got me to this stage in the first place. Any how i would try to implement good free advise, eat diabetic food and do my exercises daily! Thanks
David

Hi David, you are in the best place. There are some lovely recipes and it sounds like you are in the right mind set to do ok. I always say if I can lose weight, anyone can as I have struggled with it for years. Can you adapt your gourmet food then?
I am not in a good mindset at the moment as work is extremely stressful and that seems to be when the carb cravings kick in...but I am managing to over-ride them at the mo and pretend my cottage cheese and salad is divine :)
