i have started taking prozac/ fluoxetine a week ago and i am only on 20mg a day. over the last 2 days i have had a sudden jump in the amount of insulin i need to take. i don't know if this is because of the prozac. does anyone else have experience of needing more isulin suddenly when starting prozac/ fluoxetine?

i am also wondering if anyone else finds that using sweeteners like stevia increase their bg?

thanks

Yes, when I was on fluoxetine my sugars were a lot higher. If you take a peek at the ingredients, you will find lactose and dextrose (another name for glucose) amongst a multitude of other sins. Unfortunately, sugars are present in most oral medications. If it helps, I always tried to take it with a meal. I'm on venlafaxine now, and it is a nightmare. Citalopram wasn't too bad. Can't help you on the sweeteners, I'm afraid.

Feel free to message me if you need advice /just a chat :)

Thanks, do you mean just throughout the day your sugars were higher? (Not just after taking the pill?) x

Yes, consistently higher. It was about four years ago, so I can't remember specifics, but I definitely ended up taking more insulin. Have you asked about splitting the dose, so 10/10, morning and evening?

I don't know, not being an expert of any kind! All I can say is that from my experience with venlafaxine, which is a different drug doing a similar thing, and what I remember from being on fluoxetine, is that it seems to 'even it out' slightly, so the rise you get is less, and more consistent throughout the day. When I first started on venlafaxine, I was having massive hypos in the middle of the night, every night, without fail, but splitting the dose seems to have stopped that. I don't know if that would be suitable for fluoxetine though, as they seem to have different recommendations for different drugs. It might be that it just isn't the right drug for you - I definitely think it is worth going back to your doctor and seeing what he/she has to say. Definitely take some before/after records of blood sugars with you if you can!

People that can't listen to other people's opinions.
People that can't say sorry.
All drugs seem to be capable of change bloods high or low... mine (not same as your drug but Letrozole) caused higher levels and its not mentioned on side effects..

Drugs with anything in the ingredients with xxx ose on the end of the ingredients like dextrose, sucrose and others with that "ose"
In descriptives of ingredients can raise levels.
Some though can lower levels. Some people it doesnt affect, some it does.
