Confused

Hi all,
Started regular testing 2 weeks ago and after getting peaks of between 10 and 16 at first am now getting most after food readings below 8.5, however I am a little confused by some readings. Fasting readings have all been in the 3.9 - 5.5 range and mostly in the 4's. Two hours after a medium carb breakfast of small orange juice, 1 shredded wheat with skim milk and one rye slice with either egg or low sugar marmalade (about 40grams in all)and the numbers are in the low 6's, well within target. By lunchtime BS is back to around 5.5. However 2 hrs after lunch that same amount of rye bread will have pushed my levels to around 8 sometimes a little higher and the same after the evening meal. Am I getting insulin resistant as the day goes on and are the beta cells more effective in the morning? These readings seem to be very different to what others report.
Any clarification would be help. thanks in advance.

Hi,
No meds a the moment, I was on Meformin for 3 months but it made no difference at all. My nurse thought I should start gliclazide but we agreed I should try testing and low carbs (a la Dr Bernstein)till next Feb to see what could be achieved. From what I have read I would like to avoid gliclazide for as long as possible.

I have no idea then, sorry! If you don't get any helpful (i.e. other than me!) replies soon you could try the low carb forum?

Re: the medication, I would assume they could try max dose metformin before anything else, so if they suggest gliclazide again (which I assume they won't if you still have low readings) you could ask for a higher dose of metformin instead.

Hi all,
I posted this in the Type 2 forum with only one reply from a helpful member who suggested I try here, all replies gratefully received.

Hey Dib, sorry to see you are still in a holding pattern here :) . Thought I'd pop up and say hello but I'm afraid your query is waaaay beyond me! Your fasting numbers seem incredibly low to me...almost non-diabetic and your 'low carb' breakfast is about quadruple what I could eat! Orange juice and wheat and skimmed milk ( which I think has the highest carbs of all milks )!!? My bg would be in double figures with that lot. You need someone very clever to sort you out :D Is there a clever clogs in the house?

Hi Jaykay thanks for your reply,
Yes the whole saga of my T2 has been a puzzle, I had to have 3 GTT's to confirm it as the first which got temporarily lost came back at 5.5 in the meantime I had taken a second test that came in over 11.1, a third taken 6 months later confirmed T2. Since then my levels have been ok until my last hba1c 3 months ago. I am testing daily with a Contour usb which I find very easy to operate and shows my trends very clearly - I have two peaks every day one 2 hrs after lunch and the other 2 hrs after evening meal which have come down by having strictly one small portion of carbs at these meals, my levels seem nearly normal at all other times. I ask what sort of T2 is this, or is it T2? It seems closer to a form of T1 from research that I have done. My first test this morning was 4.1???
