i am type 2, diet controlled.

for the last 10 or 11 days i have had a headache daily. on and off with help from ibuprofen and migraleve.. not sever headaches, just there..
anyways, i have also noticed that my sugar levels have been high, on average 11 ish. for example today, i had some chips, then did a bit of shopping, sat down for an hour did some work then picked my daughter up from school in the car, and went to college. 6 hrs after having the chips, i was 11.5. i just couldnt believe it. this hasnt happened before this last week or so.

is it the chips that caused it to be high? no one has bothered to tell me about carbs etc, so i assume this only concerned people who are on meds??? ive not a clue about this!

i know there is a possibility things could be playing up at the moment, due to not being able to do my normal amount of excercise the last 4 weeks due to doing a 4 week college course!

the whole thing is starting to concern me tho. ive been diagnosed about 4 yrs now, and i really dont seem to know anything!!

hope some one can help! thank you!

Hi,
Different types of carbs are absorbed at different speeds. For instance starchy foods (potatoes pastries etc) are generally absorbed more slowly than carbs from fruit sugars (oranges etc). The speed at which carbs are absorbed is also slowed down by the addition of fat. Therefore, if you eat a portion of chips, the carbohydrate content of the potatoes will be absorbed more slowly (and have a longer effect on your blood sugar) than if you had a portion of boiled potatoes of the same weight.
So the carbohydrate content of the boiled potato is similar to the chips but the way it is cooked will vary the blood sugar reading two hours later. However, after about 3 - 4 hours the readings ought to be similar again.
Hope that is a bit of use.
Regards,

Could be dental related, wisdoom teeth coming through or maybe start of decay ? This could kickstart the body's immune system and can then trigger elevated sugars that are slow to come down. Maybe the headaches are because you're unconciously clenching your teeth.

Or it could be your natural insulin losing it's affectiveness in dealing with the glucose levels and maybe time to consider medication?

However, this is just personal experience not medical advice!

Ultimately if you're feeling ill go to the doctor, I couldn't stand a headache for 10 days in a row, you must have some strength!

Good luck.

Hi Kazlinks, I would just add that carbs effect every diabetic whether on meds or not, all carbohydrates turn to glucose after being digested so the portion of chips you ate may well have been the cause of your high bg levels, however any infection you may be harbouring may also increase your bg levels.

Have a look at the Information For The Newly Diagnosed it will help you understand the connection between carbs and glucose/sugar

all really good advice! thank you all so much! you have given me something to think about!
im pretty annoyed that my gp or surgery nurses havent mentioned anything about carbs to me! and i really hope i dont have to go on meds yet! i was hoping they find a cure before that happens!! haha!! wishful thinking i think! lolol ill see how i go after i have been back to the gym as from next week! yay cant wait!!
i will also read the link you kindly gave me thank you! :-)

It is highly unlikely that any of your medical team will menion carbs to you except to advise you to eat more of them.
