Probably like a lot of others on here diagnosed with diabetes a few weeks ago trying to find out what I should eat not eat and looking around the internet left me even more confused so at one of my many visits to the docs thought I would ask there only to be told just try and eat healthy for the time being as you will find out when you see the dietician at the hospital even though Ive been told that appointment will not be until around May June time which to me seems a long way off

For the time being have changed my diet fatty foods pies chocolate cakes and fizzy drinks and the likes have gone deep fat friar in the bin

But after looking on here white rice seems to be a no no which for no apparent reason I thought may be ok but what I find strange is that tonight had a very large plate of chilli and boiled rice the week before a Chinese chicken curry takeaway ( swapped from my usual beef curry to chicken curry )and on both nights after eating tested around two hour later them two readings have been the lowest of the two weeks of testing after the Chinese that was 4.2 and tonight after the chilli 5.0

over the last weeks of testing most readings are around 6.5 with one reading at 8.1 and another 8.5 which is the highest have had since testing

Hi. Yes, rice can be a problem because it's high-GI but some high-GI carbs when mixed with fats or other foods can be OK as the overall meal GI reduces i.e. the absorption rate is slowed-down. The best things is to eat to your meter and if it doesn't push your blood sugar up then it's fine for you to eat it. Note that many dieticians live in a different world from us and think that diabetics can have a 'normal, healthy diet'. When you see the dietician beware of this and the 'have carbs with every meal' mantra. Low-carbing is overall good advice and fats aren't the enemy to the degree we see the experts go on about.
