Hi

I was diagnosed just over 12 months ago. For the first 6 months I did more exercise and watched my food but then I slipped back into old habits.

So just had my first annual review, the doctors didn't call with the results so I had to call them. Apparently my blood sugar is 37 which apparently is normal

Do they mean normal for a diabetic or are they saying I am no longer diabetic?

that is normal range for a non-diabetic

No your still diabetic, just a very well controlled one.

That's good, whatever you're doing, keep doing it. The HbA1c sort of reflects the average for the last 3 months, that's a simplification, but gets the idea across. So your results are very good, and using your meter will indicate whether you're slipping back into too many of your old habits.

I am quite positive. For six months plus prior to the test I had to a great extent reverted to old habits (but more sugar and carb aware and less fat conscious) but since the test and before the results I had started to take more care. Need to improve my fitness as I am booked on a couple of 100 mile cycle events this summer

Hi and well done. It's best for your annual review to arrange for the blood test to be done 2 weeks before your appointment. That way the review can include discussion about your results otherwise it's a relative waste of time. Some surgeries don't seem to get this.
