I have recently been diagnosed t2 diabetic,no meds,I started doing blood readings yesterday. This morning my waking reading was 9.1,had breakfast porridge and blueberries, did another reading 2hr 30mins later my reading was 8.1.Cannot understand why 1st reading was so high and after breakfast it had gone down.I thought it rises after food or am I wrong? I am getting abit confused on what is right/wrong and what I should/should'nt be eating on a low carb diet.I have just been offered the Desmond course,is this the dietitian appointment my nurse said she was referring me to or is it something seperate?

Hi aly64, its just the dawn phenomenon! This is when your liver releases what it thinks is the shot of glucose to get your bodr ready for the days activities

the dawn phenomenon process also includes other hormones that increase insulin resistance, so for a type 2 with their own insulin production, could potentially see a higher morning reading.....

regarding the blood sugar level after food, normally you would see a small rise at the 2 hour mark, especially being insulin controlled but depending on the GI of the food and the insulin response, the levels could potentially stay pretty level.....

Do t be too concerned about your morning reading. Test before eating and 2 hrs after, tjose are the important numbers. The Desmond course is something different.
