hi I'm type 2.. What confuses me is my fasting levels... One morning I can be in the 4's (mmol) the next morning I may be
Late 5's and the next over 6.6
I don't understand how you can be "normal" pre-diabetic, or diabetic in the course of three days?
Please help me understand .
Can I also ask, six months ago my hba1c was 5.7 , at that time I was on a low carb diet , having sugar every so often, after that , wanting to get my result down even further, I stopped all carbs , sweets, etc, but at my last hba1c last week it was up to 6.5.. I really don't know what's going on, help anyone? Thank you

Hi and welcome!

Do you eat potato, pasta, rice, bread, tropical fruit, sweet drinks and starchy veg? Because they all break down to glucose in the body and cause the blood glucose to fluctuate.

Lots of us find that our fasting blood glucose is affected by a number of variables, including (but not restricted to) amount of sleep, lack of sleep, stress levels, what we ate the night before, whether we low carb, time we get up, how active we are between getting up and testing, how hot the shower was, whether it is the weekend, or the week, meter innaccuracies, and probably a thousand more...

Really, the best thing to do is record your fasting blood reading on a daily basis, and then look for trends. Cutting carbs in the diet can help to bring the average down, so can exercise, medication and several other things.

The single thing that has the most impact on my fasting blood glucose is stress.

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to write. I eat none of the foods you mentioned, haven't for almost a year.
Don't eat any fruit of any kind, no vegetables that grow under ground apart from onions, sometimes. Nothing sweet or low fat, I eat mostly protein, and a few green leaf vegetables. A very boring diet ! :)
I am very stressed and do suffer from insomnia so maybe ... I will keep an eye on that thank you
