Confused..

I was diagnosed a year and 5 months ago, my hba1c was 54...
I worked hard for 6 months on a low to no carb lifestyle. I lost 23 kg and I had an hba1c of 30. My doctor took me off metforman. 3 months later I'm sick with all the symptoms prior to being diagnosed... another hba1c an I was 40. Which is still low yet I was thirsty going toilet 4 5 times a night blurry vision pins not needles etc. I ask why do I feel so sick when my hba1c is still low but got no answer cept go back on metforman but only one pill a day not 2. Well after a few months of that I'm so sick again and I get hba1c off 57 this time. So on 2 metforman. My bg have ranged from fasting 20 to after eating 33 an one said Hi.
I have no energy at all. Feel quite sick. My Dr said my iron was bit high . When I looked this up I was quite surprised at how serious that can be. How long does your pancreas go on for before it stops all together?

Great work with the weight loss and getting those numbers down but I'd be like you and annoyed at the creep back up. Safe to assume you're on LCHF still? Have you had your thyroid checked?

Hopefully others far wiser than I am will weigh in with their 2 cents worth but after doing so well and getting it under control, it strikes me as weird you're (in some respects) back to where you started.

When you say "sick", what do you mean? Lethargic? Something else other than that? It doesn't sit well with me to put you back on metformin without doing a full check on other possible causes.

Hi Nessa. If you're low carbing and still getting BG readings over 20 (and very high HbA1c) then you definitely need something stronger than metformin. TBH I'm really surprised that your doctor hasn't already discussed this with you.

You should also talk to the doctor about the possibility that you mightn't be T2, and perhaps you could be late onset T1 (or LADA).

You really need to discuss with your doctor about either trialing other oral medications (eg glicazide) or starting insulin.

Sick again... blurry vision, extreme thirst, 2 times an hour toilet visits, weak and tired occasionally bit breathless... hba1c came in today at 76...
I'm really ******... off.
I'm on lantus only 16 mg or ml from the pen thing. I hate it. And I've not taken it for 2 weeks. I sort of can't be bothered at the moment. Dr is going to refer me to a endocrinologist person as she said my diabetes is not acting as typical type 2. Whatever that means.

Unfortunately, the symptoms you describe are all characteristic of very high bg levels and the only way at the moment for you to start feeling better is to inject the Lantus again and test bg levels and drink water every hour so that your kidneys flush the yellow urine down the toilet. Also, dont eat any carb until bg levels start to fall down to single figures and not double. Better still, get yourself off to A&E at hospital because you need help. If you dont get yr bg levels lower, you will develop DKA which usually means staying in ICU.

I do have high iron levels. Tho the nurse didn't seem concerned an I thought it was odd to have high iron levels as I don't eat alot of iron filled foods.

I got my gad results so 100% type 1. What a journey it's been. Now I'm allowed carbs and I'm finding it hard to get my head around the changes. Have apidra with each meal an lantus at night. Was in hospital 2 days ago for a hypo and I'm still reading low in mornings 4 or 4 5. I'm very tired all the time. Bit over it all actually but joined a diabetes group seeing endocrinologist an nurse so trying. It seems like these levels no matter how good you are just do what they want. Over it .get pump in 6 months.
