confusing nutritional info on packaging

liquorice, just reminded me of something I forgot to put on my dislikes list:brb:
 
So it works out that, if 100g of dried pasta is considered a portion. Then 240g of cooked pasta is a portion, I couldn't have eaten 240g of pasta even when I was 18 stone:D that's 75g of carbs from 100g of dried once you have cooked it:( I cooked 116g of dried which made 279g, we had half each so I had 43.8g carbs just in the pasta :arghh: Slightly more than the 18.1g carbs it would have been if only it was calculated from the dry weight.
Still it is only a one off so no harm done , a little of what you like does you good so they say:hungry:

Depends on the country you live in and the manufacturer as to what is called a portion. My packet in France has 60g of pasta as a portion but even the pasta we have from Tescos suggests 75g. ,
When you cook pasta in water it absorbs water, the longer you cook it the more water it absorbs and the more it will weigh. It's reckoned normally that the cooked weigh may be anything between 2.2-3.5 times the original weight . (fresh pasta though is an entirely different beast)
The carb content remains more or less what you started with as uncooked weight (actually there is a bit of loss into the water)
So best to weigh your portion before cooking(when I first started using insulin, I cooked my portion in a separate pan to my husbands. It's not necessary now as I know what portion sizes look like

Another point is that he longer you cook it , the more the starch becomes available and the greater effect it will have on glucose levels.
