My daughter has been diagnosed 5wks,we started carb counting on mdi on Wednesday and she is having less units than she was on sliding scale, but is having more hypos. Why is this happening

Misty... can you give us some more information.. when do these hypo's happen in relation to her eating? what insulin is she on, dosage and times, what ratio's are you using.. how old is she..

The simple answer (although not a helpful one!) is that the insulin dosage is wrong.. but without more information it will be difficult to pin point if this is the long acting insulin or the rapid acting..

Hi Misty,
what is happening is called the honeymoon period. This is where her pancreas is having a few splutters before finally giving up. Plus also the change over to carb counting which is a bit hit and miss to start with.
Perhaps a call to her nurse to discuss cutting back the basal (background) insulin would be in order.
