Constant Highs

I hope someone can help..

My bg's are constantly high. I wake up in the morning and am lucky if they are below 8. If I carb count and inject 1 unit per 10g of carbs, as instructed, it usually does nothing and I stay high. If I take 2 per 10g it brings me too low. My general bg's are between 7 and 15 if I am lucky. I went through a few weeks of being below 12 but am right back up high again. My hba1c has never been below 8 and I have been t1 for 17 years and I do not know what to do. It is really getting me down and am so scared for my health

Not sure who has instructed you to do 1:10, but that's really just a starting point. If it doesn't work for you, you need to find the ratio that is right for you. 1:10 or 2:10 aren't the only options. You might try 1:8 etc

But before looking at your ratios it would probably be a good idea to check if your basal insulin is doing its job and keeping you steady when you aren't eating. Here's some info on how to do a basal test - https://mysugr.com/basal-rate-testing/

Diabetic nurse advised me 1:10 but have never been told anything different. Basal wasn't working but consultant made me do a couple of fasting/carb free runs to check it and after a couple of tweaks it went well but now that doesn't seem to be having much affect.

Basal check again, but be sure not to eat during the test even if the meal is carb-free.

Hi @T88
welcome to the forum :)
from reading these first posts of your it seems as though you are relying on your Diabetic nurse to do some of your thinking for you.
Of course she is a professional -- but at the end of the day you need to own your Diabetes.

I would start by getting the book Think Like a Pancreas ---

have you been on a carb counting course -- DAFNE is the normal one that is run.

as has been said above -- basal testing is the starting point -- but looking at adjusting Insulin to carb ratios is also very important.

do keep posting with how you are getting on

all the best !!!!
