Morning, I didn't even get chance to start today as I woke up at 7:30 with a hypo of 2.3 I've dropped all my background by 0.01 every hour as I had 3 hypos yesterday it's driving my mad this has never happened to me before not even when I was on the injections it's scaring me could there be an underlining problem?

Morning, dropping your background insulin by 0.01 wil not have much effect at all. maybe reduce by 0.1 every hour. Thats only 1.2 units over a twelve hour period.

Total basal is 6.5 units, majority of which is between 4~7 am. During 8am ~ 6pm I only have 0.15 units per hour. Trend to need a but extra on weekends though so trying to get a weekend basal profile done

Lol, thats all I need otherwise I just keep dropping. The rates I got now keep me steady when not eating between 5~6mmol. Some need more, some need less. Thats why basal testing is done to see what the individual needs.

My dad has been getting on my case about my hypos saying I'm not eating enough carbs when I told him what I had for lunch which was a cous cous salad and total carbs were 30 grams he thinks old school like when I use to be on injections and had to eat 50 grams of carbs. Am I right as long as I take the right ratio to insulin to carbs I can have what ever carbs I like what are the rules on how much carbs a diabetic should have?

No rules really, the only rule I have is only have fast acting glucose for hypos. some low carb to keep insulin doses low. Personally I eat 200~300 carbs a day. But, yes u r correct, being able to carb count means u can have what u want and adjust insulin to suit. Now and again, not often I will just have a carb free tuna salad and use no bolus insulin. My diet usually contains 2500~3000 cals a day of which half of these calories made up by carbs. This is what my body needs as I used an online calculator to work out what I should be eating as a non diabetic. So, as I am type 1 I just adjust my insulin doses using my carb to insulin ratios for each meal.

My view is eat enough food to keep your bodyweight at a healthy level and keep your bg levels stable with the correct amount of insulin. As a woman I eat roughly about 100g carb per day and that enables me to keep my weight ok but when I was much younger I was more energetic and always on the go doing something or other and so used to eat about 130-150g per day.

It is a 'balancing act' between insulin, food and activity that keeps people healthy.

I use my fitness pall I find it really helpful for carb counting and sticking with the daily calories. I tend to have about 150-200 carbs in a day but weekends tend to be less. I've only had the one hypo so far today so fingers crossed I won't have a hypo tomorrow so I can do the basal test :)

IHs I struggle with my weight I stopped smoking a year ago and I only need to look at food now and I put the pounds on, I'm quit active at work as I work with children but when it comes down to fitness I'm struggling as I've got neuropathy and my feet hurt so much at the minute!

Well today I managed to do my basal testing with out going hypo I stayed in the tens all morning! So tomorrow all being well do I have breakfast and and morning snack then miss lunch? And eat at tea time? What do you suggest I do with my basal with being ten all morning?

Nice one :) duds originally reply saying to increase basal, but quickly realised something. If started on a ten and stayed there ish then your basal would be correct. Not going higher/lower much. That would suggest you need a better level to start on. What were you before bed and how long had you not had anything to eat/drink before bed?

Did u use a bolus for what you'd eaten 2 hours before.
