Type of diabetes
Type 2
Can anyone advise me please, diagnosed type 2 in July 09, was 19.2.metformin 3 times a day, BG now around 6.8.
keep getting constant styes and just generally feeling ill, Family say that I 'm not myself since being diagnosed and so do the people I work with sort of lost my mojo. have lost my sweet tooth, lost a stone in weight, and have lost my appetite too, (is this normal?)

keep being told that diabetics just get ill more and cant fight infections as well ???? is this true ???
(also think working with disabled kids doesn't help as they constantly cough and sneeze over me )..............

diabetics are not prone to more illnesses if they have near normal blood sugars, when you get a 6.8 is that a fasting test? do you have a monitor where you could test at different intervals so u could get more of a picture on your blood sugars?

Diabetics can be prone to loads of infections.
Working with kids will make it more likely
It helps if you keep your blood glucose as close as possible to non-diabetic, which is around, or just below 5 .
You are using Medication, so you have a few choices. See your doctor about changing/increasing your medicine or
change your eating.
You've lost weight you say. Was this a good thing? or did you have none to lose?
You need to control your cabrohydrates in some way. possibly going to a GI diet would suit you, or just reducing portions and/or total carbs.
Have a searh through the forum
You should find a strategy that's worked for some people and which would suit.

PS infections make blood glucose control more difficult and you should see the doctor about them.

In addition to getting your blood sugars under control it would be worth discussing with your GP about the use of long term antibiotics for styes. They are painful, unsightly things and sometimes they eventually need cut out. Drugs such as oxytetracycline, lymecycline, erythromcyin and doxycycline (all tetracyclines indeed!) are useful in acne, recurrent styes, recurrent boils and infections in the beard area.
