I've heard coconut oil can be useful also for constipation, apart from all other apparent benefits. Virgin coconut oil, that is, not the processed ****.
I use psyllium husks from amazon or eBay .half a teaspoon in a glass of water I keep it well stirred so it doesn't collect at the bottom of the glass then drink another full glass of water,worked for me
Acceptance of health treatment claims that are not adequately supported by evidence. I dislike it when people sell ineffective and even harmful alternative health products to exploit the desperation of people with chronic illness.
I use psyllium, lactulose, and laxsol tablets as my constipation has other causes as well as low carbing and is very severe.
I tried flaxseed but because I didn't drink enough water it made it much worse. I've also read on the forum that it can take up to 3 weeks to work in some people. So I will be trying it again in summer when I find it easier to drink lots of water.
Plenty of water, fats/oils, fibre from sources such as vegetables, some fruits, nuts, flax seed, and time for you body to adapt to your new diet.
I found that the first few weeks on my LCHF diet were a bit of a problem constipation wise, but once my body got used to its new way of eating it was much easier. I still find though that if I'm not eating enough fibre/bulk or drinking enough, I'm a bit more likely to get a bit "bunged up".
Now- flaxseed, chia seed, oregano oil tablet and special mix of olive oil dressing... Trying to combat constipation from medication has been a battle for last 10days....
