Hi friends,

well like most of us after being told we have diabetes, all my diet has changed, i eat plenty of veggies, try a and remember to drink plenty! usually when i have headaches :(

i am on slimming world diet, and although i try not to eat much potatoes and pasta etc, i do eat plenty of meat with my meals, something i really didnt have before,

now alls going well, i have lost 22lbs, i swim and excersice, have salads most days, but!!
although its embarrassing to talk about, i keep suffering from cosnstipation, i get griping pains most days :? , feel like i need to go to the loo but when i go i am compacted,
to be honest i am worrying if its something more serious :(
i have tried dulcolax before and although they work they give me bad tummy ache...and 1 doesnt do anything!!
this week i have been eating in small doses, dried prunes and dried figs, drank lots of water..still nothing....oh i can go but a lot of straining (sorry)
this all started when i was dx 3 months ago, i am thinking of trying dulcoease as its spose to soften things up,
i really dont want to go the GP just yet without givening everything a try,
has anyone else suffered this? if so what helped?
i have read that eating meat can give you constipation along with other foods

sorry to be blunt about it, but i am getting desperate!! plus, i guess lactolose is out of the Q with me being type 2 diabetes...i am on diet only..any helped will be gratefully recieved
thank you x

Hi, roxy. poor you, it can be so painful and full of discomfort.
I know this one 'WELL' .
Here is a quick fix remedy, buy a fig - yes a fig !
Cut in half , scoop out the middle eat it and both halves too.
Drink plenty of water, stay indoors same afternoon / evening of eating it.
Up to 2-4hours later 'RELIEF' !!! :D :D :D
Honestly it works for me and I have 2 bowel diseases to contend with.
Please let me know if you try this and if it works for you. Anna.x :D

I never Got on with the stuff you mix with water always bloated me right up
and never shifted anything

I have to take a laxative every single day because i take Morphine every day
I use lactulose syrup works very well for me its not a one shot fix ,
you need to take it few days or every day if needs must like me 15ml with your breakfast
will do the trick You will not end up with the runs with this stuff

It works by drawing water into your bowels and softening the stools

You can get it from boots or ask your GP for it

It works Really well as mine were like concrete
You may need an enema after 24hrs to start things off
Again you can get them from most chemists

I had one whole tin prunes and few figs never shifted the morphine concrete poo
Was that bad I had to go into hospital and have it dug out then the bowels washed out

The lactulose syrup was only thing that works with me
Lactulose is a synthetic, non-digestible sugar used in the treatment of chronic constipation

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactulose
Be careful pushing down hard as you can end up with piles

thanx for your replies, Bowell i read up about lactolous, and its sounds just right, i might buy that tomorrow,

although i have been to the toilet, i still feel impacted most of the time untill i can get shut of it,

but because of my age, i get to thinking all sorts  especially with the griping pain and nothing happening!!, so i guess the pain is normal considering being costipated?

last time i went to the GPs, i went about something and just mentioned i had had heatburn for a few days and wondered if it was because of change of diet!!
she wanted me to go for the camera down

i talked her round to giving me gaviscon and antacids for a few weeks, and it cleared up...hate to think what she would want if i went with this...camera up no doubt!!

GP gives me Lansoprazole to protect the tum and help with acid reflux and heartburn

Other thing I find that helps is Indian tonic water with heartburn and the cramps tonic has quinine

I also take 2 Sena tablets every night
As morphine draws water out of the bowel and Stops the bowel from pushing the stools down the system
So i need a Two things to kick start me keep me moving
Sena that makes the bowel push the stools down the system
and the lactolous to put the water back into the stools

Yes cameras :!: had one up the little boy a few weeks back

Hope you get sorted compacted constipation is real nasty

Bob

i have suffered all my life, im using movicol daily now and it works for me ;)

Different strokes for different folks ,Same as diabetic drugs

Movicol does not touch me Just felt bloated with no end result :?
same with my wife she had a problem GP gave her Movicol NO Show
and pinched some of my lactolous Great Success :D

Pain clinic Sorted Mine out ,I will be on it rest of my life
Becomes even harder when you cant get to the Loo in quick order :?

When they do cameras do make sure they put it down before they do the going up pictures! Funny that most people complain of the opposite problem after going on metformin, maybe that's your answer! Seriously though I can sympathise, after my accident I had a ruptured bowel and after no action for 10 days I was given a suppository-blimey I think I know what giving birth feels like after that!

Gappy Roxxy is Diet only

Yerr im on Metformin 2500mg I have been for it years made things move a bit faster at first
if you know what i mean  after year or so , I seemed to be normal

However since Fall and back spinal damage I take lot of morphine every day along with other pain
control drugs ,If i take extra dose morphine to cover pain trip to hospital , and do not top up the lactulose dose i will be in big trouble

thanx again, ....my dad always says, go in morning for camera...cos in afternoon the same camera is used for other end (he joking by the way), Bowell i take lanzaprazol, , i think the GP was on commision for getting poeple to have camera down....

so is the pain/griping on and off at top of the belly normal under curcumstances?

so is the pain/griping on and off at top of the belly normal under curcumstances

For me yes i do get that pain/griping when bunged up can also feel sick with it as well

Hope it clears for you 15ml a day should clear it ,,
If it comes back may have to stay on the lactolous like me
Best thing with lactolous it once your OK with your bowel re-start
You can add or take away the amount you take to get stools Just right for you
start with 5ml (teaspoon) and build up to the perfect Storm er (stool) 8)

Constipation Its something i do my very best to avoid

Cameras I have had them in EVERY Hole Now the Oral one for me was the worst
the one up the nose is not to clever wanted to sneeze all the time ,The Bum one no problem
the tiny one thats put up your Pee hole, I was worried with ,Ended as a walk in the park
for me as i have no feeling down there there anyway ,,Every cloud has a silver Lining :D

lactulose is tasty as well. I use it sometimes :D

hah you know I never ever thought of that. Guess what im trying tomorrow :D

I have type 1 diabetes fibromyalgia and RA I take pregabalin and morphine slow realise tablets as well as RA medication I have recently started to get constipated once ending up in hospital as was so bad! They suggested I use Laxido twice a day (satchet add to water tastes of oranges) and this seems to the trick without going to far the other way! Get mine free on prescription might be worth a try. Good luck I know how painful it can be!

Tipetoo ha ha new to this and didn't realise it was such an old thread! Like you say one would hope problem cured by now!
