I spoke to my Dad last night on the phone and he said he'd read in the paper of a patch you stick on your arm that constantly monitors your blood sugar levels and transmits the readings to a device. Dad being dad lost the article though so I'm wondering if anyone knows of such a device and is it available on the market/NHS?.

No its in clinical trails at the moment. Not sure how they are going but they were looking for diabetics to start testing late this year.

It's a great idea

Type 2 diagnosed 24/01/2013.
Novomix 30, Victoza, metformin 2000mg sr (but not taking them as they play havoc with my insides,

"At the time of the accident mi'lud, my client was not using his mobile phone as alleged by the prosecution, but merely checking his blood sugar levels on a hand held monitor, an essential precautionary measure to ensure safe driving"

Yes there is a device that can do that. Dexcom is a company in America and they distribute in Australia. I have emailed them as I want one. I did a carb counting course a few weeks ago and a young girl who was type1 since a baby had just finished trialling it and loved it. It lets you know when your heading for a hypo or getting to high. Another company that makes them is Medtronic .

Any idea how to find out about the trials and who they are looking for?

A work colleague mentioned a monitoring patch recently. He has a friend who works for Abbott and it's apparently to be released very soon.
