Does anyone have any experience of continuous glucose monitoring. I have been told that it is not available on the NHS and that there is no information or help available if I purchase it privately.

It is very unusual for a CGM to be NHS funded. You could contact INPUT for advice on whether your circumstances / condition might meet the exceptionality requirements - I.e. Are you hypo unaware? Do you have disabling hypos? Etc

http://www.inputdiabetes.org.uk/cgm/cgm-costs/

If you can afford it, it is possible to just buy a CGM privately. There is more information on costs and options in this thread - http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/cgm-advice.101334/#post-1155372 - in particular, see the links in the second post.

Information and adive on using a CGM is available - DSNs are becoming more familiar with them and should be able to support you, but if your nurse is lacking there is plenty of information on the internets.

If you've got any particular questions, just ask.

I was able to get funding for a CGM when I got my pump, thanks mostly to my Endo and DSN,it was quite a battle, and many meetings and took about 14 months. The reason I got a CGM was that I had totally lost my 'hypo' awareness.I am into my 55th year of being T1.If you have any specific questions, please ask.
