Hi all
I’ve switched from the cheapie Care Touch meter to the Contour Next EZ as the Care Touch disappeared. I’ve noticed since this switch my readings are noticeably lower. My fasting BG is typically in the low 90s (mg/dl) and the range is quite tight (87-98 mg/dl). However since opening a new batch (different lot #) my fasting BG have suddenly dropped about 10 points (now ranging from 79-83 mg/dl). Other readings especially post meal seem about the same maybe a touch lower as well but much less obviously so than the fastings. I’m on metformin 1500 mg ER daily without changes.
No real change in lifestyle although I have been slowly lowering carbs more and more (down from about 80 g to 70 g so nothing dramatic) and exercising daily (again not new). I had gestational diabetes and am 3 months post partum if this makes a difference. I’m just a bit cautious in celebrating these suddenly lower fasting BG and wondering if a switch in the batch of test strips could explain this. Alternatively could improvements in insulin resistance literally happen overnight like this? Wondering what other folks’ experiences have been.
