Hi all, I just got an email announcing a competition that I should enter to "win" a Contour Next blood sugar meter.
I have been using these particular gadgets for well over a year and yes, they are brilliant - they make my previous device look like an antique.
But a competition to win one? I simply called the manufacturer and they sent me 2 of them in the post for free - one for home and one for the car, they both hook up to my iPhone via bluetooth very easily and I could not imagine life without them now. You will see why when you get yours, highly recommended!

I “won” one. Though have stuck to my accuchek mobile as i like the cassette rather than strips and attached fastclix. The contour does look neat though.

I guess you don't 'win' a supply of strips for it ;)
Good marketing though, gets people talking about it.

Strips are subsidised in Oz, but i agree they are neat gadgets and their measured accuracy of +/- 5%
is reassuring.

Next One is a very nice meter but I find that you sometimes have to ensure the app is open (not dormant in the background) if you want the Bluetooth connection to reliably send data to it right there and then. Otherwise it’ll just sync the next time it does connect. Overall it’s pretty snazzy. I have a couple of other, less sophisticated Next meters (same strips) and they seem equally as accurate.

My local GP practice switched me to an Accucheck Performa Nano and told me that they would prescribe strips for that meter, and that meter only as it was the one the local group is using. I think they get some sort of bulk order discount?

I miss my Abbott Freestyle, but I use between 200 and 240 strips a month and don't think I could afford to buy them!

I could ask about the Contour but I pretty much know what they'd say.

I have the Contour Next Link (came with my pump) and love it. I "won" a competition for the Next One a while ago. Its now my back up meter :)

I have just looked at the specs.
Whilst it has some cool features it is BIG. At least compared to my Freestyle Optimum Neo.
And I don't think it measures ketones which would mean the need for a second meter.

I'll stick with my petite Neo ... and be grateful I get the strips on prescription.

The contour next is tiny. Are we really thinking of the same meter?

Next One is the smallest form factor meter that I’ve come across. There are others, though. Next is a range of meters, of which One is only...one :D

For size estimation. Yes it’s a little thicker than some (not many though) but very narrow and short.

@JP808 my Neo has lasted 4 years without any problems. All without a case because I didn't like the bulkiness.
I like that it does ketone as well as bg and fits in my back pocket.

I guess we all have different needs soo it is good if we have a choice.

@JP808 . My surgery switched me from the optium neo. I was peeved to say the least. I found it to be a great meter but like you I had issues with it failing to recognise strips. The problem it turned out in my case to be the batteries. The neo seems to eat batteries for fun, as soon as the power output from the batteries dropped the problems started.
Obviously this was what I found, appreciate you could have different experiences.

When I "won" my free Next meter, I looked at the price of strips (£22.00 per 50 approx.) compared with my NHS issued and supported meter, Care Sens Dual at £11.00 per 50 ......... hence the competition I think!
Given the costs it is no surprise that NHS don't fund the strips, in fact I would be a bit annoyed personally if they did!

I have a Contour Next Link.

There are offers of a free Contour Next one on various sites. Does this use the same test strips as the Contour Next Link?

I believe that all Contour Next strips are compatible with all Contour meters carrying the Next branding.
