Cooperation from a hotel - oh joy!

I won a prize that was a two-night break in a hotel in Hereford. I was uneasy as food can be a problem when eating out. So I emailed the hotel and the chef asked for a list of what I could eat (I’m pretty low carb, high protein, high fat) and so I sent it, without much faith. When I got there last week, she had done a menu to look like everyone else's, and it was full of choices of magnificent dishes all based on my list! I could choose from nearly as many options and it was definitely top grade. It was an amazing experience to be so well catered for, so I called her out of the kitchen before I left, to thank her personally.

So If anyone's in the same boat and in need of a hotel in Hereford (not sure if I'm allowed to name it here) do PM me for details. And why not try talking to any chef in advance, wherever you're staying?

Rack of lamb,roasted shoulder of lamb, chargrilled courgettes, cauliflour puree (!), buttered spinach, that sort of thing, and one dessert was raspberries, roasted hazelnuts and orange cream - think it's how they serve it as much as anything else, though the lamb was out of this world for tender. Some chicken had a mushroom and bacon sauce which was terrific. I simply chose bacon and eggs for brekkies though. Sounds normal but was presented fabulously. That raspberry dessert was served on a slate tile... I considered bringing it home to put on the roof but it seemed a bit bad to steal when she'd been so nice!

That's the level of service we should receive more often, most hotels and eating establishments are all too aware that customers share their experiences on the Internet and people read these reviews before booking.

how nice to get such good service :D - glad you enjoyed your weekend too - what a lovely prize to win!

Have to say I haven't as yet encountered any restuarant or hotel that wasn't happy to at least try and help - even my local deli (which is directly opposite my house) now lets me take them over a couple of slices of Burgen for them to make my sandwich

Sometimes I will have a quiche with salad and they cut of ALL the pastry before they let me take it, they know I am a devil for pastry :evil: hehe - they do a mean brekkie too but that's a very occasional treat

Great service should always rewarded me thinks - they are on my Christmas list for sure

It's great to see such dedication to satisfying the Customer. I too have stayed at small and large establishments and had great service - one place even going out especially to buy me certain foods they knew I would like after chatting to the owners about my diet requirements. Mind you they did also get me some Diabetic Jam.........had to put them straight about that one. They don't agree with me at all !! I much prefer just a small amount of 'real' Jam with no after effects. :)
 
It's fantastic when restaurants/hotels/cafes etc are accomodating (and unfortunately, seems to bt eh exception rather than the rule these days)

We should have an ongoing throead for good service to diabetics :D

On that note, if anyone is ever in central London I'd like to recommend this place;

Everyone in my department got taken out for lunch today to thic mexican restaurant, I love mexican food but it's all bread, rice and beans which are not very carb friendly.

They were extremely accomodating though and swapped my beans and rice for a lovely green salad without any fuss whatsoever, leaving me only with one tortilla (in the form of a chicken chimichanga) to shoot for!
Excellent service I think.

Advertising such as you posted in the link is not allowed, an Admin rule. It is free advertising for organisations and is banned. Nothing stopping you Pm'ing any members if you want.......that's not on the board.

If you would like to discuss it with the Administrator maybe he might look at the rule again. Advertising at present has to be paid for. It is allowed on the Diabetes.co.uk community pages but NOT on the Forum.
