Hi all out there!
Well it seems this dreaded virus is well on the increase here in the UK and yes like other diabetics I'm very anxious.
I have been off work for 5 weeks now recovering from a hand operation while watching TV and the developments happening. Meanwhile my husband who us 68 but thankfully healthy, has been at work at a Police custody suite - a hive of germs you would imagine but hand gels and guidelines in place and we are very careful with hand hygiene at home and when out.
My concern is that I'm 62 and have had T1 diabetes since 1974.
My employer is a local council and my job on a social care team is going out assessing those who need care support and many other issues with adults from 18 + and so many of them are elderly or ill or both.
We encounter many environments, some clean and some very much not so.
We obviously have to sit on their furniture and give them pens to sign our forms. These are vulnerable people so this job has to be done by someone to provide care, support or assistance as required
Apparently no guidelines are in place on our teams yet, the council has no virus precautions on the .Gov web site and teams have not been given any advice re protection and trying to reduce contact in the public - business as usual part from hand washing etc. This is as now so it may come?
What I want to know and can't find correct clear information anywhere - is that because of my age, and long term T1 I'm obviously in one if the higher risk groups.
Should I be going to work and mixing in a large office group, and doing visits to assess people in their homes etc? This obviously puts me at great risk as this virus spreads further.
Does anyone know the guidelines for a diabetic and does the employer have to follow them?

Hi @Po girl , I am in a very similar position to you. I work for the emergency services and at this moment in time, I too have NO idea what they may have in place for those of us with 'underlying chronic health conditions'. I am back at work tomorrow after a week off and things have changed since then so I shall find out what my Line Managers have decided and get back to you if that will help. I work shifts, in direct contact with the public in all manner of situations, not to mention in an office full of colleagues who also deal with those very same people & situations. I am not one for panicking and going into hiding and of course I still have to work but I am hoping some extra plans will be in place for 'us' to at least minimise catching it. x
