I'm a new pump user.

Just curious about correction ratios (as in how many mmol/L bg 1 unit of insulin brings you down by).

I've just moved to a pump and I think my dietician has used the 100/total daily insulin rule to get my ratio, but I am sceptical.

In particular, if I wasn't on a lowish carb diet (circa 80g per day) I'd obviously need more insulin, but maybe the ratio is different then?

It's not far out, but my pump doesn't seem to cope with highs at all well, so am tempted to adjust it. I also find that once my bg is over 10 I need to manually correct because ratio is useless, but am not surprised by that because I know my insulin resistance goes up when my bg does.

Posting this in the T1 forum rather than the pump forum because insulin ratios are relevant for all T1s.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Using the 100/TDD calculation, my correction ratio would be around 3 whereas it is actually between 5.4 and 5.9 (like my basal and I:C it varies at different times of the day).
I have worked this out through trial and error

Sadly, it is not possible to set up a Insulin Sensitivity (as my pump calls correction ratios) for different BG. That would be so helpful. Instead, I will manually adjust the calculated value by doubling the correction part of the dose when I am over 15 and add 50% when I am between 10 and 15.

That is really helpful, gives me the confidence to do what I was intending to do anyway. :)

(Obviously my ratios will be different).
