Hey I’m hoping someone has some advice as I’m freaking out. I’m type 2 diet controlled ( not amazing but around 7mmol) and today had a steroid injection in my knee. Trouble is no bloods are now 14-15mmol!!! And I’m reading they could stay like this for a while ( days?!). Am I ok? I feel ok. But doctors is closed now and I know I’ll be awake all night stressing which is probably going to increase my levels ‍♀️.
I can’t exercise ie walk as told to rest knee.
Help! Thanks

It’s a pretty normal reaction to steroids even in none diabetics. It will be temporary and your BG will eventually settle back down after a few days. If you want to and you can, reducing your carb intake may help a bit, but you’ll be fine. If I tell you when I was diagnosed T2 my BG were in the high 20s low 30s and probably were for at least 6 months - that was 14 years ago and I’m still diet controlled no major complications, then a few days for you in the teens won’t do much if any damage

Try not to worry, I have had steroid injections in the past and yes my blood sugars went up for anything up to a week, just stick with low carb and drink plenty, you’ll soon be back where you were.
Hope your knee shows an improvement soon.

Thank you so much that’s such a relief to hear ‍. A big help. Am sat here drinking apple cider vinegar. BG seems to have dropped slightly to 11.7 . Might rise again but as you suggested I had a low carb meal of prawn salad and will keep low carb . I have the other knee to do end of July so will have to go through this again.
Thanks

Thank you so much -that’s good to hear. It’s just when you have a knee specialist who says it’ll be fine it’s harder to trust than people who have ‘lived it’ . So hearing you and others is very reassuring.

Cloud cuckoo land here, but wouldn't it be good to be warned about these things by the medics?

You'll be fine.

As per all the above - this is totally natural, and in fact we all have a bit of a Cortisol (the natural hormone) spike first thing in the morning to get us up and ready - All "Cortico-" steroids (as opposed to anabolic steroids) are pretty similar in the sense that your body needs energy to do the thing that the steroid calls for, so the simple way to do that is increase blood glucose.

It would be great if the medical establishment understood metabolism a little better.
