I have a slight chesty cough and, even though I've been good eating wise, I can't stop falling asleep and my sugars are up. Is this normal. Also what's the best thing to take as a cough mixture?

Most cough mixtures tend to be syrups and very sugary I take a herb tincture called ivy thyme Vogel do one which I can get at health shop .Its a good idea to drink plenty of water this will help the BGs as well as help the cough Hope you feel better soon

There are Sugar Free Strepsils now in Strawberry Flavor. they don't taste much of Strawberry and are at least the same exorbitant price as the ordinary ones.

I have managed a lemsip + 1/2 honey + small amount of whiskey without it affecting my BS significantly. This was before bed, so maybe the high sugars put me to sleep quickly and the whiskey made me just not care that much!

Out of interest I did look on the packets

LemSip Cold&Flu- "contains 3g of sucrose. This should be taken into account in patients with diabetes mellitus."

Panadol Cold & Flu - Carbs 3.8g (3.7g Sucrose) - but their sachets are slightly bigger than the lemsip ones.

warm bath, couple of paracetamol, herbal or fruit tea with lemon, and Sambucol from pharmacy/health food shop, its proven to shorten the duration of a cold or flu.
I collect elderberries every autumn and freeze them for winter, these little black berries are miracle workers, boosting the immune system.
Google Sambucol for information.
Hope you feel better soon.
