Coughing for 4 weeks

Ive had a cough now for just over 4 weeks, Ive been type 1 for 40 years now and never had many problems with it, I self isolated with my sons then went back to work still coughing although I was told it would be ok, I feel very unwell now chest feels tight, I called my GP who said it was more like an infection and put me on antibiotics Ive had diarrhoea, lethargic, cold on the inside but not shivering, no energy what so ever, has anyone else suffered like this or am I the only one, Ive never felt so ill.

Yes I felt cold like that. Not straight away. I remember saying to my hubby that I was so cold and he said I wasn't. I said I don't mean my skin i know that's warm. I am cold on the inside, cold to the bone. I also didn't have any energy at all. Again not at first, maybe after 8 to 10 days of symptoms starting.

So, I'm going to mention the elephant in the room. Have you been tested for COVID-19? (Though I'm guessing that if you were told to go back to work you've either been tested or your doctor thinks it's something else.)

Hope you feel better soon, I do know flu (true flu, not just a bad cold) can make you feel awful for weeks.

So, I'm going to mention the elephant in the room. Have you been tested for COVID-19? (Though I'm guessing that if you were told to go back to work you've either been tested or your doctor thinks it's something else.)

I'm calling the go tomorrow and ask for a test, I don't want to go back to work if I have this virus and they won't want me there,thank you

No. I caught the virus on March 2nd and symptoms started suddenly at 6 pm on March 6th. Then went away after 24 hours only to return a few days later with a mild chest infection. It was then that I went online to check symptoms. The advice back then was that if you hadn't been abroad or been in close contact with someone who had been tested postive for the virus then no action was required. I didn't realise it was COVID19 until the chest infection had cleared and I appeared to be recovering but then was left with the dry cough which was so bad that I had to sleep in a sitting position and almost blacked out with lack of oxygen.

The cough can last for many weeks after having the virus. My guess is that you have had COVID19 and unknowingly went back to work too soon. I understand why your doctor is treating you for an infection as it's best to be on the safe side but don't forget that this is a new virus and no-one knows how it will affect the individual.

I am not sure you will be able to have a test unless you are a carer as they are still in very short supply.

It is a bad one I must say, I am a key worker and work in close proximity to others who don't want me there if I have the virus, I am waiting for my GP to give me a call back as my blood sugars are all over the place and I have ketones, but thank you that hope you recover soon

I am fine now thanks. I only have a dry cough occasionally. I hope you're OK. Let us know how you get on.

Glad to hear that, I spoke to GP yesterday and he says its probably an infection so have changed the antibiotics and told me to rest up and see how things go, I do feel like rubbish today so I'm guessing thats to be expected, just glad its nothing worse x

Aa key worker, aren't you (and your family) now eligible for home testing? I appreciate the system is very new and seems to have been swamped, but it's probably worth exploring, as the test allegedly also gives an indication of where the individual is in their infected state.

It wouldn't make a lot of difference as its over 3 weeks and test would come back negative, so still in the dark as to whether I've had the virus or not, I would like to know if I have and have an immune system against it. Still early days

I am indeed, will look into it maybe if I ask my boss he might buy some tests for the whole workforce, you never know, stay safe.
