I've asked this question because many type2s are suffering with arthritis too. Or does the arthritis drugs bring on type2?

Myself I'm developing very mild arthritis in my fingers but have never taken arthritis drugs. But my mum may have had symptoms whilst pregnant with me.

Is there a connection with arthritis?

Joint pain is more of a 'by-product of type 2 diabetes'.

High blood sugar makes a mess of many things and your joints are also included. Not controlled for prolonged periods you can develop joint damage which is known as diabetic arthropathy.

You would have to check the side effects of the drugs you're on to see if there is any reports of joint pain.

I have been having trouble with my joints for a long time but got worse since being diagnosed Type 2 in Jan this year. Fingers shoulder, wrists and neck, strange.

So the inflammation from poor bgs aggravate or start the arthritis?
This is very interesting.

I've had my rheumatoid arthritis longer than my T2 but it has been more pronounced since the T2 diagnosis.

I have had severe psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis far longer than the diabetes. Psoriatic arthritis is very similar to rheumetoid. People with severe forms of these are twice as likely to develop type 2 diabetes. They are also a lot more likely to develop other autoimmune diseases such as chrohns, lupus, hashimotos, and MS. That being said I also believe my metabolic issues started around puberty when hormones go nuts. My autoimmune nightmare was triggered by my first pregnancy at 20 years old so very much hormone related. Right now my CRP which is a measure of systemic inflammation is 24 and it should be less than 3. I believe chronic inflammation as well as hormones has a very big part to play in diabetes . This is all just my opinion but formed by a lot of research into why I am so messed up.

I have found my moderate arthritis in 2 places has disappeared completely since going low carb/high fat. I could be quite wrong, but I believe it is carbs that cause inflammation and thereby arthritis. @poshtotty had remarkable results with her severe arthritis after cutting carbs. She posted a long, detailed thread about it last year some time.

Thank you both for the mentions. I've not heard of a medical connection but my own personal story is that I was first diagnosed with osteoarthritis, then told it was rheumatoid arthritis. Shortly after came the T2 diagnosis. All in the same year as I remember. Until then I'd enjoyed 40+ years of very rude health, no previous medical conditions and no operations.

Since converting to LCHF in March 2014 my RA has been in remission, where it remains today. I cannot say if it's giving up carbs or increasing good fats
