Hi guys, I’ve been using the Libre 2 for a while now and have asked about the dexcom g7, the nurse gave me the dexcom one,
Does anyone find it’s better or worse than the libre 2?
I asked about the omnipod and the lastest version of the dexcom but I’m told that because I manage my levels well I’m not entitled.
I find this frustrating, how can I be penalised for managing well, why do some people who don’t manage well get the more up to date technology versions.
I’m in no way saying all people do it on purpose or don’t look after themselves On purpose but it’s a bit of a kick in the teeth. Surely we should all be treated the same with the same technology,
especially if it’s a more up to date version so we don’t run into those problems. Had a **** diabetes nurse today and feeling annoyed and upset! No help, no information and Rubbish attitude. always enjoyed my consultations but today has totally frustrated the life out of me!

Both of these things - Dexcom and pump criteria - your DSN is complying with the NICE guidelines.
Their guidelines are not to get provide better technology because to patients who want it but to those who need it.
Sure, it is frustrating to feel as if we are persecuted for taking more care of ourselves but, sadly, the NHS needs to spend their limited funds where it gets more value.

You have not explained here why you feel a more accurate CGM than the Libre L2 would benefit from you. Did you explain to your DSN that you are finding the Libre unreliable?
If you are finding the LIbre accurate enough for you, now that it is a full CGM, I am not sure what is the advantage of the Dexcom One.
(I found the Dexcom app more limiting than LibreLink when I tried it with the G6.)

You mentioned the OmniPod. Why do you need this pump? Why do you need any pump? OmniPod is one of the most - my clinic do not offer it for this reason - which is why the frequent advice is to focus on getting any pump rather than a specific one.
What issues are you experiencing that need variable basal or extended boluses or very small doses?
Are you having to frequently give your self micro-boluses or pre-emptively take hypo treatment to maintain your good management? If so, is it having a negative impact on your quality of life?

These are the kind if things you need to think about (apologies if you already have) so that you can sell you need for this technology rather than asking for and appearing just to want to have the latest for no specific reason.

My libre is not alerting me during the night or day, so that’s why I asked for the dexcom to see if it works a bit better.
as for asking for the updated technology, or the newer versions,
that is the only reason for enquiring, not because I feel I’m entitled I just thought everyone could have all the latest technology if it’s found to be more accurate and so on.
I understand about the money, it was more querying if it’s available. It’s not, or not if you are in control we’re more her words.
Although the nurse had nothing really to say to me, she sat there in silence for a minute until I said are you ok, which she responded yes.
I said you have the data from my sensor so I’m waiting for you to speak to me about it.
She just looked at me and said you are well controlled will see you in 6 months here’s the dexcom one. Was a frustrating consultation to say the least.

Yep, that sounds far from a good experience.
It sounds like a waste of your time and the NHS money!

If your problem with the Libre is missing alerts, from. what I have read, there is no reason why the Dexcom One should be any different in that reagrd from the G6 or G7. I have not read about any issues with regard to missing alerts. I believe the Dexcom One is the same as the G6 with a few features (like sharing) removed.

I have been using Dexcom ONE for about a year. The App is really buggy and it often fails to give me alerts; not sure if it's because of my iPhone 14 or just a known issue. Also, it is really inaccurate (reads high) unless I put it on my upper arm. I think I am going to ask to switch to Libre 2 now that it is a CGM and can give alerts without scanning.

I self funded dexcom 6 for around 18 months then switched to dexcom 7 as it was slightly cheaper. I thought it was amazing at the start however, loss of signal if my phone wasn’t right beside me so anytime I left the room or out in my bag no signal or readings which was annoying to say the least. I then noticed it was really inaccurate when checking against needle stick and this never resolved. The sensors also gave up after approximately 8 days so I either had to contact dexcom or lose two days of the sensor on a number of occasions. So I gave up, cancelled my subscription and have gone back to Libre 2 which seems better in terms of accuracy. So far so good and with cost of living increases it’s a win win as get the Libre on prescription. Fingers crossed it continues to be accurate.

Hi @Dudette1, have you tried the Shuggah app? It works the same way as the Librelink app and works on both Android and iphone as a CGM for Libre 2. People who find the libre not to be very accurate say the Shuggah app is much more accurate and they like the alarm system better. It might be worth giving it a go. There is a thread on here with step by step instructions on how it works.
