Not sure I agree. All the advice I have had and seen says we do fall into the higher risk group as we have an underlying health condition.Since Diabetics (T1 or T2) don't fall into the COVID19 higher risk category, it's no surprise that you don't have to self isolate.
However it is only sensible to practice Social Distancing as much as possible because all the stats from China, Korea, Italy seem to show more deaths among diabetics , but with no breakdown as to Type and whether well or badly controlled.
Neither is there any sign of a scientific theory as to why more diabetics should have died - unless the Covid19 infection causes their BG levels to spike high enough to do it.
Things move fast and by the time you responded, the advice and criteria for UK had changed. Not sure I agree. All the advice I have had and seen says we do fall into the higher risk group as we have an underlying health condition.
What do you mean, yes they are!Since Diabetics (T1 or T2) don't fall into the COVID19 higher risk category, it's no surprise that you don't have to self isolate.
So far unless at extremely high risk (cancer/transplants/cf etc) we have been told to limit social contact (not totally isolate) as much as possible for our own sakes as we are higher risk, and to help protect others in our own higher risk group and even more so those in the extremely high risk group.
Do you mean going to your mum’s and associated activities, food shopping and work if you can’t do so from home or in general for socialising?
Refusing to take as many measures as are practical is foolhardy and irresponsible. How would you feel if you gave it to your mum?
Both me and my husband are type 2 so what do we do isolate for 12 weeks not run the business and lose it , leave my mother to fend for herself . There is only half information out there and for a condition that is considered a progressive disease but we are not that ill to be given self testing strips, but now we are in the catagory of those with underlying health conditions . I don't know whether I am a healthy person or an unhealthy person it seems to change to fit with whatever they choose .
thank you .Have a look at this link. It is the official government website
https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...rable-adults#background-and-scope-of-guidance
They make very clear that you and your mother (assuming she is over 70 years old), need to take this seriously, and do everything you can to reduce the risk of getting the coronavirus and then passing it on to other vulnerable people.
It explains what is expected, and how it should work for carers.
I hope that helps.
The problem is that people say 'there are no cases in our town'. When the actual truth is that there are no diagnosed cases.Up until today I used to hug and kiss my mother when I left , but today we didn't and it felt horrible i felt mean . She is a widow and is very lonely when i am not there and now with no visitors will be worse. Yes I know it is necessary , there are no cases of coronavirus in our town . I thought there were but they tested negative .
