COVID 19

Hey guys. I’m type 1.. currently experiencing a new cough and sore throat with headaches. My headaches started around 4-5 days ago. My cough then came along 3 days later. The first night was just a light cough.. I could feel it moving to my chest. Day 2 of the cough was my worst. It felt painful when I coughed so I decided to call 111 for advice. Whilst all this was going on my blood glucose levels have been controlled and good. The odd raise which is expected after food. 111 told me that I have all the symptoms and to self isolate. Today I’ve woken up and my cough seems to of eased and my headache no longer seems to be there. I haven’t had a temperature at all either.I don’t want to jynx stuff but is that really it? Or will it come in another wave. I live at home with my partner and 1 and a half year old little girl in a two bed house. So space is very limited. Trying not to get in there way and stay away is particularly tough. I will post more if I get any more symptoms and keep everyone in the know how I’m doing. Hopefully this is helpful to everyone.. also I recently received a letter stating I was to stay home for 12 weeks. Which I can see a lot of people are confused if we fall into this category or not. I’ve called my hospital diabetic specialist team.. and no one has been in contact to say they have received a letter... as far as there concerned we are just as at risk as anyone else.. so who do I listen to the doctors or the specialists... what do you guys think on this? Has anyone else revived a letter or experienced the same? Thanks guys stay safe J

Hi and welcome @Jimmyc0808

hope you have a mild case of the virus and recover quickly.

Please follow the 7 and 14 day isolation guidance (if you are in the UK).

As for the letter, if you have been officially notified by the NHS to stay at home for 12 weeks, then you should follow it.
Your employer should understand the situation if you show them the letter.

My only query is that if you are currently ill with COVID-19, and recover, will you be safe to leave the house because you have gained immunity? But that would require official confirmation (via a positive test result) that you have COVID-19.
And unless you are tested, you will not get that confirmation.

Also, there is insufficient evidence available about immunity, so I think you will be far better to follow the instructions in the letter for the full 12 weeks. But if you do get through to your doc or clinic then they can clarify all this.

Hi @Jimmyc0808, I hope that if it is Covid then you’ll have a light dose! I think we on this forum have too little knowledge to advise you what to do, but your cough sounds nasty so it’s good not to pass it on to your partner and your daughter. Let us know how you are, please, as the time passes.
You’re lucky to have got the letter, and it’s probably wise to use the 12 weeks given you shield yourself and your family. I think we’re all hoping that the people working so hard to gain more understanding of this virus, and to develop a vaccine, will eventually be successful.
Wishing you the best. And have a hug too!

An addendum, as I was writing @Brunneria’s post was put on the thread so I need to clarify. I agree, we really don’t yet know if immunity works with this one, so it’s much the best to isolate and not risk contacts.

Thankyou for the messages guys.! Is it not impossible to get a test to say you are immune... unless you work on the frontline. So I guess I’ll never know it it is or it isn’t. It isn’t from nhs it’s from my doctors. I don’t see why I received one and many other type 1s haven’t had a thing. Why me? Diabetes is the only thing wrong. When I called the doctors they said it’s only guidance and it’s totally my discretion if I was to follow it. The specialist at the hospital where totally blown to why... which is why I’m question it. Don’t get me wrong I want to be safe and I’m not being ungrateful as many people want this letter! This would be day 6 for me I think.. so surely it won’t return fingers crossed guys! If anyone wants to ask me anything or share please do.. it’s nice to have a group of people that understand what we are all having to face through this very tough time. J

Hi, glad to hear that it sounds like you've had a mild reaction, however, I have read a lot of anecdotal evidence from people where a second wave has appeared after a couple of days of feeling better. Usually around day 9. Obviously I don't want to alarm you but would just rather you were prepared for the possibility and still keeping a distance from your family.
Best of luck, and please let us know how you get on. x
