Cramps

I too suffered severe thirst but so do many diabetics especially when not diagnosed. Had 4 cramps in my left calf again last night. Wish mine would just go!
It can indeedy be very painful .
I used to have to do stretching legs exercises
Before bed time and massage my calves too .
This helped to lessen the cramp attacks .

Use a bath towel rolled up .
Place middle of it under foot .
Hold the two ends of towel and stretch as
far as you can against the towel .
You will feel your calves pull as you do this .
Then a good massage to each calve afterwards .

Worked well to lessen the cramps and slept better too !

Thanks Anna i've heard this can be beneficial but i'm afraid i cant take it because of my kidney disease

As I've just posted in another thread concerning cramp, it is statins (in my case, Atorvastatin) that caused my cramp for some months. Luckily, I found out some info about this and has taken magne B6 (500gr tablet at night) together with statin. My cramp disappeared.
I hope this info can help. You can try!

Good luck!

Wow that sounds hopefull I'm on Simvastatin 3 times a week so may well be worth a try, thanks Lonelywolf

I was on a diauretic I had aweful cramps mine was due to depleted sodium levels .

I was with pains in legs n muscles with simvastatin since changed to amlodipine I have been fine .
Just a little cankles swelling initally then all has been fine since . :)

Best to revist your GP - explain all pain and cramps etc
Ask about the statin possibly too - there are other options that may be more suited ?
Only your GP can advise and prescribe with your meds .
You say you now take Amlodopine is that instead of the Simvastatin. I take both of those but was given the Amlodopine for high blood pressure. I was on 10mg at first but had swollen ankles and feet so my GP reduced the dose to 5mg which I take along with 15mg of Lisinipril.and no more swelling. I do get very occasional cramp in my legs but I had those long before I took Simvastatin and my HBP medication

Quinine is helpful to prevent cramp
I sip it tonic water with slices of lemon in .
Love the sharpness of the taste .

Totally understand your point with the Amlodopine
possibly cause of cramps ?
I asked my GP same thing .
He told me it wasn't related .
Hence he put me on quinine meds .
Prevents the painful cramp at night .
Sorry to worry you but Quinine Sulphate is banned in the US having been proven to have caused the death of over 90 patients using QS long-term for leg cramps. Some c. 6 years later I was put on repeat prescription for life in the UK and found it to be a wonder drug for prevention of serious whole leg cramp. However some 8 years later specialists here believe this long-term use to be responsible for damaging my kidneys. QS should only be used for remedial aid for malaria hence it is still available in S/E Asia.

Use diuretics sparingly or you will suffer from leg cramps. I take 250mg Magnesium each night now and so far seem to have conquered the problem (See my many posts on leg cramps and the recent Statin Survey and my posts 108 and 208)
