T2D here. I have been doing progressively a lot better since COVID shut us down. Stayed home, cooked everything, went to low carb, then keto, began intermittent fasting, lost about 12 pounds.
A few weeks ago, I cut my hand very badly and severed a tendon. Had hand surgery, increased the amount I was eating in order to tolerate the pain meds and the clindamycin, but I still didn't go off the low carb.
My birthday came around, I was off the pain meds, had a small cheat-dinner and birthday cake-back on the diet. My sugars were not fantastic but vastly improved from when I began a few months ago.
Last week the doctor took out my stitches. I still have a pin in there. She gave me BACTRIM, a sulfa drug, as a second course of antibiotics.
The past few days my sugars have been so high I can't keep my eyes open. I also have been ravenously hungry. Foods I normally tolerate well have my sugars way too high for hours on end.
I've got another week of this bactrim. Part of me wants to get back to my regime, but I know I should take the pills.
Can anyone give me some insight into whether it actually is the bactrim that's causing this? Any ideas or suggestions? I'm either sleeping like I'm drugged or convincing myself not to eat a pint of ice cream.
I really need some ideas here because I'm quite discouraged. The pin won't come out for another 3 weeks, and when I see the doctor next week, who knows if she will give me some other **** thing to take.
