These cut off points are somewhat arbitrary anyway. Sadly they sometimes reflect the policies of the various countries' health services. Sometimes they are only prepared to treat over a certain point.I do remember reading that A1c tests can be accurate to +/-0.5% in old money.
So someone with a 6% A1c which is 42 mmol.mol, could actually be 5.5% (37) or 6.5% (48).
It would put someone who is actually pre-diabetic into the normal range or into the diabetic range depending on day of the week.
No wonder they do a 2nd lab draw to confirm.
