Hi,
I am a researcher thinking about developing a project that aims to look at how some forms of bariatric surgery manage to rapidly restore glucose control in the absence of compromising food intake and prior to weight loss.
Very recently such techniques have been recommended as treatment for people with diabetes that cannot control their blood sugar through other options.
The study I want to undertake utilises an animal model of the surgical technique to identify the molecular responses. The aim is to identify the targets, so that we might be able to stimulate the response in the absence of surgery.
I am interested in hearing the opinion of individuals that have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and have struggled with successful control of blood glucose regarding whether they would consider bariatric surgery as an option and if there was an equally effective alternative, what their preference would be.
Many thanks to those that take the time to respond!!
