I'm cutting carbs and today I've only had 44.3g of carbs - my question is, is this amount too low? I'm struggling to eat anymore. How many grams per day do most people eat if cutting carbs? Thanks

If you feel fine and your bloods are good then that's a fine amount - I am a bit higher on 80g a day but I'm on gliclizide- there are many many people on here that go even lower at 15-20g a day - well done on your hard work!

i am 15-20. All from above ground veggies like salad greens celery radish mushrooms and avocado. I've been doing this for many years

After 7 years of diabetes I'm now on a mission to get out of the 'obese' category as I've heard so many people who have managed to either reverse their diabetes or gone into non-diabetic ranges. My partner's mum was pre-diabetic a couple of years ago and with attending Slimming World and losing 3 stones in weight she is now in non- diabetes range. I want to do this before it gets worse and end up on insulin which I don't want. Some very encouraging stories on here.

I've been down as low as 20g carbs (mainly from veggies) for a short while, and now keep to under 50g, and this level has been sustainable for over 2 years now as I can eat a good varied low carb diet which also keeps my glucose at an acceptable level.

It's the sustainable part that is most important to my mind as for many of us LCHF must be a permanent lifestyle change rather than a shorter term diet. And it depends both on what each of us needs to eat to bring our glucose levels and/or weight down, and how we are able to handle managing our diet long term at that level, so you need to find your own balance. Eating a slightly higher level of carbs is going to be better than being over ambitious and going too low and (maybe continually) falling off the wagon, but if you're managing now and feeling well on it then you're doing just fine!

It doesn't matter how low you go as you are not on any meds. (Providing you up the fats accordingly). It is a matter of finding your own personal threshold. When I was on 40g. I wasn't at all happy about my BS levels. My testing was telling me I needed to eat less carbs, so I did. I am on up to 30g, most often less, and find this sustainable and suitable for me, personally.

Use your meter to find your own threshold.

Following BlueTits sage advice, I am consuming an average 20 carbs a day (Sitagliptin,Gliclazide, Metformin) and appear to have my BG under control (haven't seen higher than a 7.8 since 27th May previously seeing 13 or 14 daily) As said by others, you have to take on the headset that changes making positive improvements in your health, are a commitment for life. Believe it or not, my hardest daily action is to limit my diet by using only 1/4 of an onion or 1/2 a green pepper in my ingredients,, and store the rest in the fridge for tomorrow!!! A low carb diet does not mean a "Go hungry" diet. Stick at what meets your needs and benefits your health.

I am going to see my GP tomorrow morning to discuss with him about me trying The Blood Sugar Diet doing the 5:2 as recommended by Dr Michael Moseley. I would love to be brave and go drastic and do the Newcastle Diet but sounds a bit too extreme for me but I will never say never - I think I need to concentrate now on getting out of the 'obese' range and get rid of my belly fat as a priority.

I would like to know, regarding 'reversal' is it considered too late for me to try and 'reverse' my diabetes after 7 years? it does state in the Newcastle Diet trial that it didn't quite work for T2's who were diabetic for 10 years or more so I feel I might still have a chance (I do hope so). I know the word 'cure' is a bit too ambitious to use but to be able to get into non-diabetic levels seems like a dream come true to me at the moment but one which I am willing to try and persevere at.

Thoughts and feedback would be all appreciated and to hear from anyone who is in a similar position to mine. Thanks

I think one thing all of us will agree on is that lowering your carbs WILL lower your blood sugars. How low you want to go is up to you. For me, the lower the better, less than 20 a day and it's very sustainable for me. I've been doing it for 20+ years. Carbs other than a few veggies make me feel like goo.
