Mlorning everyone.

Allow me to introduce myself and say "Hi" my name is Andy, I am a Diabetic of 39 years standing (wow writing that makes me feel old!! haha)
I was taught to count carbohydrate way back in 1976 when I was diagnosed and have done all my life.
Recently however my HbA1C has gone very very high and the Diabetic nurse in Stockport, where i now live has put me on the DAFNE/SOCCER course in July this year.

Just a quick question to anyone who has been on the course What do you guys think about it? Does it give you empowerment and more importantly how has your control fared after attending the course?

Cheers in advance.

Andy

Hi Andy, I have heard nothing but positive reports from people who have attended DAFNE. Go with an open mind and you will be fine :)

Hi Andy, much like yourself and CarbsRok above we were taught to use the carbohydrate exchange system when first diagnosed which worked to some degree, but the DAFNE course teaches you so much more like Sick Day Rules, how to cope with exercising plus getting the all important basal dose right.

The Admin of the forum have been running a poll on Education courses this last week, if you read through it you will see the feedback from those who have completed the DAFNE course:

I was never taught the exchange system, always was taught how many carbs were in foods. :) That was back in 1965 for me :)

I am a DAFNE graduate and it really changed things for me, probably more so as I was previously in the dark completely about carbs etc and was on a mixed twice a day insulin......

seeing how insulin and carbs behaved on the blood sugar made it so clear for me and I was over the moon it was actually working..........I soon found out that life isn't as simple as that but the basics were the same, being able to adapt your doses to whatever came along was made to look easy because of DAFNE........

its well worth it, even after the many years you have had it, I am confident you will learn something new.........:)
