Hi All
I have been T2 for over 2 years and have not really been looking at my BS levels (my last HB1AC was 6.9) however Since finding this site I have become a little paronoid about carbs since I have been on the slimming world diet for a while and lost 1.5 stone mainly eating pasta, rice and jacket pots. Below is my food diary for today and my readings. any comments would be appreciated.
Medication 2*500mg METFORMIN morn and night 1/2 glitclizide morn and night (P.S should these be taken at meal times as I have been taking as soon as I get up and last thing at night)

before breakfast 6.1
2 wholemeal toast and beans 46g carbs
1 hour 9.2
2 hour 6.0

before dinner 4.8
mug shot 44g Carb
1 hour 7.3
2 hour 5.9

before tea 4.7
rice, quorn, passata mushrooms, onion and crème freche 110g Carb
1 hour 8.3
2 hour 6.3

Thanks

If you look at your breakfast and tea you will note that your BS is quite high 2 hours after eating, why? because you have eaten bread and rice which contain complex carbs and will therefore elevate your blood sugars.Your overall levels however, are not that bad. I think most Metformin takers take their tablets in the middle of their meal especially if the Metformin makes them feel nauseated.

hi - ask to see a dietitian - 110g carbs for t is too much I think - alos be careful with baked beans . If you had an egg at breakfast would be better. Are u veggie?

Hi Ally
No I am not a veggie. I did see a dietician a while ago who told me the slimming world diet was fine. Trying to see doctor to get another appointment with dietician

Thanks

Hi poohbear,
Your gliclizide should also be taken with a meal. It is a type of medicine that encourages your pancreas to produce insulin, so taking it with a meal is always best as that is exactly when you want insulin to be produced to deal with the carbohydrates in your food.

Hi - slimming world might have been ok if you are not diabetic altho i personally think this silly red day / green day regime is daft and for a diabetic is def not.

You need advice for you not a plan that is inconsitent. Slimming world is one of my pet hates!!
