Damage caused by diabetes

Sorry if this is a blunt question but what proportion of people with diabetes go blind or have their feet amputated? I don't seem to see swarms of them to be honest. And I'm still trying to get a grip on the differences between Type 1 and type 2.

I approve of scare tactics to get people (like me !) to pay attention but my deep suspicion of drug companies and doctors makes me cautious about scare stories.

I am trying to find out about this condition because my GP is frankly a disgrace.

Thank you and thank you times 10 to the people who set up and run this site.

No scare tactics unfortunately it's a horrible sneaky disease my brother is type 1 stick thin numerous health problems and his hands and feet are always purple they feel so cold it's like they are wet, then he has numbness pins and needles etc also tiny leaks in behind the eyes.If that isn't enough my mum passed away 2 years ago with this disease myocardial infractions she was in real bad health with it now I have it also along with a few other illnesses and believe me I am scared everything you have been told is the truth :( take care my friend and good health.... Thank you. Finally found the info ,or some info, on Diabetes UK website under Statistics. Two minutes after my post !!!Doh !! What a surprise !!1

Not good reading really. After 4 years with high BG readings my GP finally noticed and with no further ado, like trying diet changes or metformin slapped me straight on Eucreas at half recommended dosage for some reason.

Maybe I should think myself lucky in view of the price of the things !!

Thank you for your replies
