I have been reading about eating dandelions as they are said to help lower blood sugar. Anybody tried this.

Not tried them myself but I don't think that rabbits have diabetes !(sorry)
CAROL

I know that they are full of vitamins and minerals. I have tried the leaves as part of a salad. I believe the flowers and roots are also edible. Haven't fancied eating them. I don't know if they help regulate blood glucose. They do have a diuretic effect.

Dandelions are a true superfood unlike the ones the marketing depts of modern PR firms have regularly come up with in recent years. They only became an unattractive weed to be removed when some corporation came up with a herbicide they wanted to market for use on lawns. They were right. Lawn care is a massively profitable market. No idea how true claims like those on Dr Axe are but on the other hand how can one prove and disprove claims. If you like the taste fine.

edited to put the k in the last sentence.

Dandelion's are a diuretic
As Culpepper accurate states http://www.complete-herbal.com/culpepper/dandelion.htm . Lol
I have a book that states under diabetes you can stimulate the secretion of insulin by "showers taken two or three times daily". Also "it would aid considerably if you can procure from a dairy sour whey. Drink at least to pints a day until your thirst abates and then gradually reduce the quantity to be taken. Plenty of raw vegetables should be eatenand be sure to eat generous amounts of onions with your salads and sandwiches. Bitter salads like chicory, dandelion and endivr as well as tea made from the leaves of walnut trees, bilberries, french bean pods and alfafa clover are all curatives and will greatly help you." . Further on it does recommend a great deal of exercise.

**** and blast!!!!!!! It seems now that burdock is really bad for sugar control.:):):):)

if it helps Culpepper does give advice on how to treat diabetes. "A sheep's or Goat's bladder being burnt, and the ashes given inwardly, helps the diabetes. A flayed mouse dried and beaten into powder, and given at a time, helps such as cannot hold their water, or have a diabetes, if you do the like three days together." As I have heard it said "you try it if you want to".

For anyone that has ever studied biodynamics I think those suggestions are proof positive Culpepper was a Brit. I wonder what the American equvalient for the time was. A lot more civilised I imagine if a true precursor to Pfieffer field spray was available at the time!

Hi @covknit . I think I'll stick to my insulin for the time being.
Strangely though I haven't partaken in dandelion and burdock ( fizzy pop ) since childhood. Up until an hour ago I'd never really considered what burdock was, but now after a quick google search, it seems a very useful plant for a host of things. We live and learn.:):):):)

Since I have my culpepper out I just had a peek. There is indeed a long list of uses. Doubt I will be growing any although if anything happens to my aloe vera I may reconsider. Lol.
