Hi

My daughter recently diagnosed while she is in India for holiday. Can you help us, she is resisting a lot for injections. Will it get easier, it's very hard for us as she resisting. We tried different sites . She won't let us give her injection on tummy. She is only 2 years old.

What length pen needle are you using? I find my thighs least painful.

Have you tried linking the injection with some kind of reward or reward chart to save towards a reward? I don't know if she would be old enough to understand that yet?

She can understand we are giving her shot. She is using 4mm needle pens.

Hi, it can be very scary and an unnatural feeling for young children to go through this every day. Reward is good, also here in the UK , young children with type 1 can get a Rufus bear that has different coloured injection sites ( I got one for my granddaughter) it really helped ( JDRF), or you could make one of your own.
The tummy area can be a sensitive, my granddaughter, at 7 years, wont have the injection in her tummy, I tried to persuade her on Monday, but it was a big no. So maybe keep to the legs and bottom for now. Good luck.

Rufus bear, just Google search.

Alright thanks robin, will buy the teddy. Good idea , will do anything to make things comfortable for her.

Hi my daughter was just 2 when she was diagnosed in Dec and I gave them to her in her thighs and arms. Prepare the pen before you goto do it so she can't see. Tell her if she keeps still it will be over in ten and count aloud then say "good girl" or something and then just get on with other things like look at a book or have a little play for a minute.

I was 2 when I was diagnosed just got to make it part of life and not a big deal it's just a routine. My daughter doesn't like it but unfortunately she has to have it! It is easier if someone can hold her to stop the squirming but that isn't always possible.

Hi Sarah sorry about your daughter. We given her injection just now in her arm , she knows we are giving as shot and resisting . Thanks for all the ideas which we should try and hope we find a solution . Thanks and can I pm you about some questions.
