Dawn Phenomena

The contour next is very good, took me a few meters but I like this one and it seems very accurate to the lab. I think it is expensive for strips though but all strips are expensive here. It has good software and tracks insulin and carbs if you need that function.
Thanks. I looked into it. Apparently my insurance will cover 150 strips for $10 but that one is not on the list. Mine is but it's being discontinued. I think I'm going to stock up on strips and ride it out but will keep that meter in mind. It did get good reviews and the strips are about the same price I'm paying for mine now without insurance so that would be a good option. I would rather self fund something that a trust then get an inaccurate meter. With insulin and tight control I need something I trust.

Have any of you found a way around this liver dump please ?

I have found that a bit of salami, as a supper snack seems to lessen the magnitude of my waking BG.
may be that the release of glucose as the protein is converted to glucose, helps stop triggering of glucose release by the liver.

Yess !! Recorded my first ever overnight drop. 6.5 at bedtime and 6.3 on waking.
It was rather an odd day yesterday though. I fasted through to teatime.. just had a coffee with cream and a bovril all day . Then we went for a carvery. I just had some pork and a few veg. This was followed by 3 hours line dancing ( I ate a few almonds as exercise always raises my BG if I don't eat at all ) Got home after midnight and had cocoa made with water and double cream and a small piece of cheese. Result !! Not sure I can replicate this every day though.

I just had a 3 day unplanned fast due to viral gastroenteritis. Sugars at 9 with no food. Ended up in hospital for 2 litres of IV fluids that made me feel miles better as I was very dehydrated. Blood sugar dropped from 9 to 5.4 with fluids. There is so much going on with D it is not just food and exercise. It is not that simple. :meh::hungover::grumpy:

Enforced fasting because of a dehydrating illness is hardly the same as controlled fasting. Dr Bernstein has a series of videos discussing the subject of how diabetics (especially those on insulin) should handle such illnesses.

I completely agree, it's not always food. This week I have been going through unexplained highs ( well not that high but high for me). Today fasting was the first day under 100 in almost a week and I am rarely over 100 without a reason. There are so many variables that we cannot control.
I also found out this week fasting through breakfast is horrible. I never come down even with additional insulin. Now fasting through lunch with maybe a few nuts works but I like food and don't eat much to begin with so I'll just stick to the original routine.
