Hi

I am sure this has been covered many times but to what effect does dawn phenomenon impact HbA1c level results?

I have tested several meals at various times and the results are consistent. For any meals 11am to 10pm - stating glucose 5.4 mmol/L and 2 hours later average 5.6 mmol/L but in the morning 8am-ish my glucose is a fairly consistent 7 mmol/L before it drops.

I think this is why my HbA1c comes in as pre-diabetic but what can be done this? Do others just have a high morning and ok rest of time and do you do anything different?

Thanks

I am in consistent non-diabetic levels except for first thing when I get up, and until I eat my BG usually remains in the 6s and sometimes just into the 7s. I don't have to eat much, just enough for my Neanderthal genes to stop anticipating dinosaurs.

For some, including me when i tested it, having a zero carb meal/snack early in the morning may switch off the Dawn Phenomenon,
I found that my BG dropped after eating either eggs or cheese first thing and it didn't go up again until I ate some carbs at lunch.

I don't do that now, can't be bothered eating breakfast when not hungry until after 13:00 hrs.

Same for me. Doesn't happen to a concerning level every morning, but some mornings my liver must be dumping glucose at a rate where it's definitely planning a different day for me than what I've actually got going on!

Same here . Quite annoying especially as all other readings then tend to be much lower. Of course this does effect the overall result the doctors get from the Hba1c.
