dawn phenomenon numbers

My BG always drops after breakfast.

Typical example:
On waking 7.1 (snaffling a brazil nut stops it rising any further or it would go up to the mid 8s)
At first bite of brekkie 7.1ish
An hour later 6.2
Pre-lunch 5.5

I never eat carbs at breakfast, unless it is a green smoothie, which never spike me anyway
Typical brekkie is protein or a bullet proof coffee or a green smoothie.

how many carbs do you take first thing Brunneria ? and would any carbs do as i dont think i could eat cheese or nuts so early

I tend to test as soon as I first get up and am usually between 5.2 and 5.5. However I seem to go up s!ightly at weekends which may be because during the week I get up at 5.30 but at week-ends it's usually between 6.30 and 7.00

I don't have carbs til lunch - if then.

I have a Brazil on waking (don't need more than one, to halt the DP rise.)
Then I have brekkie (as above, either egg/bacon/egg variation, or a bulletproof coffee, or a green smoothie)
Am VERY intolerant of carbs early in the day.
I know green smoothies have carbs in, but they are a carefully selected 60:40 veg:fruit combo that doesn't spike me

If I eat carbs (other than non-starchy veg) I usually bury them in my evening meal, and they are usually berries or a tablespoon of Mr B's starchy veg.

The dawn phenomenon has been the bane in my life since being diagnosed, using the Freestyle LIbre has allowed me to see the 20% (1.2mmol/l) rise between 6am and 8am, I usually get up around 6:30 to 6:50 and eat around 07:30 (Plot of the last weeks data is attacged).

I've been trying a glass of wine (its awfully hard to drink) and am starting to take a handfull of nuts to bed to eat as soon as I wake up (and if I wake up in the night have one or two).

I'll come back with the results is a week or 2.

Hi pmtbrew - how did the wine and brazil nuts experiment work for you? (It's such a good plan!)

My morning numbers went into rapid decline when I started the low calorie on top of the lchf lifestyle - morning highs of 10.8 after 3 weeks of restricted intake down to under 6. I'm wondering if the rapid weight loss, lost fat around the organs / liver first to kinda free it up and curb the night production?? I dunno, whatever is going on - it's working.

Well done, keep up the good work.
