Day 2 of LCHF

I am soft like you, lol. So my lancets get blunt and hurt more after about 10 uses. No way could I cope with more than that ;)

I ordered strips from home health and they were sent out 3rd Aug...emailed HH via YKW yesterday and received a mail saying I had to contact Post office in case they couldn't put the package through the letter box...but as I have not had a card saying they couldn't do that, I suspect they are lost. Going down to PO this morning. I have been out of strips since 8th Aug, but as I have only been using a meter for 12 months I know I can manage fairly well without it..but feel more secure knowing its there to use.
Have had total knee replacement 6 months ago today and as I have not been doing LC or exercising much, I now have to go back to keeping a food diary and trying to lose the weight I have put on, only 10 lbs but I would rather not carry it around!

First proper day lchf. 2 sausages 1.1 each 2 scrambled eggs with cream , sugar free jelly, 5 oz fillet steak 0, one sugar free jelly, not sure how much carbs in scrambled eggs? Oh, and salad with steak, lettuce, half tomato , small piece onion, small piece yellow pepper, balsamic vinegar

This looks like a fab menu for LCHF, well done. There is about 0.5g carbs in an egg so wouldn't worry too much about that. Keep it up:angelic::)

Thanks, my BG was 9.3 this morning, that's low for me. Been diagnosed for 3 weeks

Make sure you keep eating plenty if veggies and salads (and nuts if you're including them) as you may get a bit of constipation to start with so you need to eat enough fibre etc to keep you from getting "bunged up". I had a bit of a problem for a week or so until my body got used to its new regime.

Thank you for that. Is it compatible with my SD codefree?
Re lancing devices, you can use whatever you fancy as their sole purpose it so provide a drop if blood - it's only the strips that MUST be correct for your meter. Sometimes you can buy them separately from the meter kit, andI actually got mine as part of a very low offer on an Accu-Chek kit from an Amazon supplier which cost me much less than the Fastclix on its own! :wideyed:

Thank you, I'll try that :)

Kim, my lancing device is set to 1, as I have girlie hands. @sanguine must have thicker skin than me. :) Start at the lowest possible setting and only work up if you can't draw blood.

You'll be a pro, like the rest of us in no time.

I don't change my lancets until either they really start to hurt because they are blunt, or when they stop drawing blood properly. It's up to you of course. Did you order extra strips from Codefree and use the discount code?
I got an Accu Check with lancet drum gadget for finger pricking. It only has 6 lances inside so when its gone round, that's it. I am guessing you can buy lancets and use without the gadget?

I had cheese salad for lunch, a handful of walnuts and almonds for a snack this afternoon, and tarragon chicken with leeks and mushrooms on a bed of spring cabbage for dinner.

I've managed to sort out a menu for the next 10 days which should suit me and my husband (he's fussy!), he's not diabetic. I shall be roasting kale and cauliflower tomorrow to nibble on, and will be making tomato and basil soup.

I have just received my glucose meter and will use it before and after lunch tomorrow to see what's what. I'm a bit of a baby when it comes to pricking myself, is there any other place on the body that is more suitable and less painful than the fingers please? Thank you :)
Like you, I'm new to trying the Low Carb diet. It feels strange allowing myself to eat all these foods and topping up with full fat without feeling guilty. No low fat this or that and hoping to lose weight too. Strangely I don';t feel as hungry between meals... do you think that is the impact of full fat. I just recall my granny from Devon telling us how she enjoyed full fat everything and she lived to 98!

When the 6 lancets are used up, just take the drum out of the device and replace it with a new one. You can buy spare lancet drums for the Fastclix on line, or from a pharmacy.
