Deep feet?

I have a high instep, so usually end up with shoes that fit closely around there, with lots of room in the toe area.
In my experience this is a good thing, because it gives the toes plenty of room, while holding the foot snuggly around the instep and preventing the foot from moving about inside the shoe, which is where the bruising is likely to happen.

Sooooo many different designs of shoe, and different shapes of foot. Makes it very difficult to find what suits us, doesn't it?

My latest passion in footwear is the good ol' Dr Marten. Airwair. Perfect, perfect boots for my feet.
Utter comfort.
And so ladylike. Haha!

Can't believe that I reached my 50s without discoving their delights.
The big worry at the moment is that I will find them too warm for summer use.
Awful thought.

DMs used to be the height of fashion for the younger ladies in the '90s.

At least, going by our family and friends.

They also did all sorts of colours and patterns.

A massive relief to parents when the kids want to wear shoes which are good for their feet.

I definitely wasted my youth. I could have been wearing comfortable shoes for the last 30 years.

The only reason I don't wear DMs are that they aren't wide enough for me. Much to my disgust.

Not something I can afford to worry about with my wide feet LOL. Have you seen the cost of made to measure shoes.
I should imagine if you've got wide feet they shoes will need more leather. On top of that you've got the skill and craftsmanship so I imagine they're more than expensive.

I was quoted £1700! Cosyfeet are a bit frumpy, but so comfortable. I used to have bad lymphodema but it's not been such a problem these days. It made wearing shoes impossible and I had to wear things with velcro straps, so really horrible. Please to say they are now consigned to the bin.

I bought some Josef Seibel ankle boots in a sale last year, a size bigger than I usually take so I could fit my insoles in - my high arches and the way I walk were causing old-lady corns - and they are sooooooo comfortable I wore them until the weather warned up a couple of weeks ago. The shop’s closed down now but you can order online from them and a net search shows they’re available on other sites too, maybe cheaper. https://www.josefseibelbypost.co.uk...MIz6uKp9PX2gIVDbDtCh0xmQPzEAAYAiAAEgJb_fD_BwE
My boots have lots of toe wriggle room. Love being able to wriggle my toes!

I have neuropathy in my feet, more in my right than my left. I been having a hard time finding comfortable shoes, and socks to wear. More sock actually. I’ll look into Doc Martens, they look comfortable. And they should be available here. I need to find a good option for socks.

I will go see a podiatrist and have my feet checked.

I have also started an IVIG treatment to hopefully address the neuropathy. That therapy was recommended by a neurologist who specializes in this kind of thing. The neuropathy I have seems to be a bit aggressive to be just do to Diabetes.

I was diagnosed in Sept. last year. Things have been going well. My endocrinologist recommended that I could stop taking insulin, and just use the standard meds and we’ll see how things go when I see her again in the summer.

Long time no see. Good news on the insulin front but sorry to hear about the neuropathy.
Just noticed your quote by JoN, the anchoress?

I’m just heading to bed. I started the IVIG treatment on Monday, I did a follow up Tuesday. Then I’ll do two more treatments one month apart, and then I’ll see the specialist again after and we’ll evaluate how things stand. I believe I’m seeing the right person for this.

Nice to here from you, it finally thawed out here. This April, winter decided to stick around a bit longer. :/ But it looks like spring is finally here, and I can come out of hibernation.

Yes, that Julian of Norwich. I did a Middle English course, and she was one of the writers we looked at, besides Chaucer. That quotation has stuck with me. It was especially comforting this year.

Hi @Ixarix

Good to see you back, and I hope the new treatment works! :)

Just a suggestion - if you have neuropathy, then take extra care with your new doc martens. Make sure they fit properly to start with, only wear them for short times until you know they are broken in, and be patient.

DMs have a reputation for being murder to break in, but then magically turn into the best boots ever, once they have moulded to your feet.

I didn’t find them ‘murder’ but then I fast-forwarded the breaking in process using a leather softening spray. :)

Hi Ixarix, have you tried bamboo socks? They’re very light, feel slightly silky, and are beloved by a few post deliverers who walk miles for their job. They don’t give you panda eyes.

Well, would you look at these? definitely in crisis, doesn't know whether to be fluffy or heavy. Yuk

I vaguely remember my late mum calling some shoes "fairy clodhoppers" so i reckon these wonders must be a prime example of furry clodhoppers?

But I prefer my comfy Hotters, high fashion or not...
