Degludec & Dapaglifozin

I've been put on Degludec & Dapaglifozin been on them for around 3 weeks now and found initially they did the job bringing my BS down to around 6 mmols. I'm now getting back pain that I think is down to the Degludec. Has anyone else had back pain with this insulin?

I've had over the last year lots of different pills, none of which worked. I've had Lantus, but although that did start to bring the BS down the weight went up, so just trading one problem for another. Now this with the Degludec. I always seem to suffer the side effects with none or little of the benefits. I'm considering just letting the diabetes run its course.

Did you ever try eating just eggs, bacon, chicken and cheese to help lower your blood sugars?

Yes I have in conjunction with the insulin and pills and got my BS down to 5.4. But I found I soon got sick of that diet. So that's not an option in the long term for me.

So you know that maybe there are alternatives to medication at least. How you look upon food is something that can be adapted.
Once food is regarded as fuel rather than "treats" restrictive diets for health become far more appealing and tastes change.
Once not so long ago I would never have considered going without bread. It is now almost 3 years since I ate any.

@SuttonRider - What is it that makes you feel it is the Degludec, as opposed to the Dapagliflozin causing the issue?

The way the "'flozin" class of meds works is to make you wee out the sugar from your bloods, so keeping really hydrated is very important, or dehydration, and potentially infections in your waterworks can occur.

I heard an Endo recently say, during a presentation that there are over 400 drug combinations available to medics to treat T2 diabetes.

I would very strongly discourage you from just allowing your diabetes to take its course. That tends to lead to ill-health, poor quality of life and a potential threat to your life. Life is precious and for living. Please don't throw away what so many want - the chance to live a good life.

I've stopped the Dap, but the back pain continued so only the Deg left. Reading things on the net it is reported that Deg could be responsible for the back pain. I just wondered if anyone on here had experience of deg and back pain.

I felt much better, fitter when not on meds so it makes you wonder.

You say you've stopped the Dapagliflozin; did you stop it of your own accord, or did your medical team suggest it? Have you had a decent blood panel done recently, and if so, was it after the pain in your back started?

To be honest, if you are unable to manage your blood sugars by diet, for whatever reason, then I urge you to keep trying to find something that supports your diabetes management, without uncomfortable side-effects.

Diabetes can be a silent killer, and arguably at least as upsetting, if allowed to kill us a bit can lead to a completely dreadful quality of life.

I've stopped the Dap (not the Dr's) to see if that's the problem, it doesn't seem to be. As from today I'am stopping the insulin for a few days to isolate that. My Dr was managing things, but when nothing was working he referred me to the Hospital. The consultant their put me on both meds. Unfortunately he has now left. He did tell me that I would get a follow up appointment in 4 months (now 3 months) time. So I guess I'm on my own until then.

Is it wise to stop the Insulin with out having your Doctors permission, can it not be dangerous?

If you are having issues, I would suggest you contact your clinic. If you have no joy there, then your Doctor has direct access to your clinic, where he/she can get advice for the way forward for you.

If your body needs the support of medications as strong as insulin, in order to keep things under some sort of control, it could be very ill-advised to just stop things without support.

I was on Lantus a while back and because of issues with that I was told to stop taking it by my Dr. Without meds my mmols is only around 11 or 12. So being without meds won't be a problem. I've now been off the meds for around 36 hours and the back pain has just about gone. I'll give it another day or so to make sure then go back on the insulin to confirm it is / was that causing the problem. I then have something positive to go forward with if required.

We seem to have got of topic. My original question was and still is: Has anyone else had back pain with this insulin?
