hi all I am new to the forum I have been disbetic type 1 for 35 years. I have recently been put on degludec insulin to try along with my novo rapid. After a week of using the degludec I had gained pounds and my body shape took on a very bloated appearance. A few months later and I am now over half stone heavier. Has any one else experienced this. Degludec no improvement and this weight gain making me miserable. Thank you

Hi @Woodjane and welcome to the forum.

I think there are some posters here who are using Tresiba.

I will bump your post up for a reply.

There's a couple of members who use this insulin, one is @Robert so I've tagged him for you in the hope that he may reply.

However, you need to make your diabetes team aware of the problems you are experiencing, it may well be that Trisiba isn't for you (given the bloating problems) as it does appear you are having an allergic reaction to the insulin

HI. Was there any reason for this insulin being prescribed rather than the popular Lantus or Levenir? Weight gain with insulin is usually associated with eating too many carbs but you may be having an allergic reaction. If you aren't already controlling the carbs then this is essential

Hi there, yes I was taken off my pump when I was on novo rapid and levemir. My carbs are very well controlled but unfortunately I have very fragile/ volatile diabetes with rapid changes and absolutely no hypo awareness. Hypo awareness is something I have never really had. So I was put on the degludec to see if it helped. I am very slim and always have been as I try to look sfter myself. I also have fibromyalgia, neuropathy, frozen shoulders, minor stroke 2012, glaucoma, retinopathy, early onset vascular dementia (due to hypos) so I am well looked after.
My weight has been 8.10 for many years, my size never varies am 49, female, I am now 9.7 which happened really quickly with no lifestyle or diet changes. Many thanks for reading.
