I felt down about diabetes when first diagnosed, and for some time after, because it seemed unrealistic to expect that it could be well controlled.
Now, thirty years later, I couldn't be more relaxed. My blood sugar is exceptionally well controlled. And although I still have to be careful (of course), I'm very much less fearful of hypos than I used to be.
I eat very well, and I don't need to 'count carbs'. (That last supposed requirement is the kind of thing that might have made me give up; so I count myself as very fortunate not to be newly diagnosed.) And I certainly don't need a pump.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if there were a reversal available for type 1 diabetes within a decade. And you're still young.
In the meantime, however, I might say that to some extent OTHER PEOPLE have to adapt to me. Because I'm diabetic, I mostly eat in my own special way; and any distraction from that is, at best, unhelpful.
I'm usually the one that cooks, anyway. So they have to adapt to me! (But within reason, I can adapt too.)
You just make sure you control your condition, Seriously_Sax1989, and tell any critics to get stuffed.
